    Evening fellas,
I have recently purchased a secondhand 2010 T100 with the original tyres fitted.
After a very unnerving ride over the weekend, where I felt the bike 'tram lining' on the bad road surface, I checked the tyres, to find the rear has a 40mm flat down the middle.
I'm looking for a replacement rear and will chasnge the front at the same time.
Can anyone recommend some nice 'grippy' tyres please.

    Cheers,

    Bill

I've a 2010 T100 as well and I use Avon Roadriders on her. They grip well, wet or dry and wear very well.

Have been doing a bit of reading up and it seems to either be Michelin Pilot Activ or Avon Roadriders that are recommended. Spoke to my local Triumph dealer and he is still recommending the Metzeller as per the original.
I think I'm going to be giving the Michelin's a go, anyone using these?

I had the Michelin's fitted today and did a 75mile ride. These are so much better than the Metezeler's, no 'tram lining' and felt solid as a rock!
Had them fitted at Dave Wood Racing in Aylesbury, I can highly recommend them, very friendly and informative. They don't rate the Metzelers or the Avon's.

While we're on the subject, my T100 is still running the original Metzeler tyres, and has done 2500 miles. There's 3mm of tread left on the front. How many miles do you think I've got left on them? (Lots more tread on rear.)

Well to a very great extent it depends on you and how you ride. Hard acceleration, braking and cornering wears tyres relatively fast, even on these bikes!

Dealer fitted a new rear Metzeler Z2 to my Thruxton when I bought it which was the first new rear after 5000 miles. Front is approaching the wear bar as well so I have asked for a replacement to match which will be fitted next week. Very happy with the handling generally. Not as sharp as my SV650 but set it up for a corner like my previous Guzzi and it rolls through nicely.

You just want a number don't you - so 2500mls would be my suggestion.

Cheers @thebiglad. That's helpful, and about what I was thinking. (Means I can anticipate getting new tyres in May/June when it goes in for service/MOT.)

  12. Hi Dave;
I have the spoke wheels on my 2012 Bonneville and would like to use the PR-3's, but will they work as they are tubeless tires ?

Hi Brent, you know that I have the same bike as you and I run Avon Roadriders AM26 on mine. I have tubes in them. There are a number of tubeless tyres that are installed with tubes such as the Metzeler Lasertech's, at the Triumph factory.

Don't know the PR-3 tyres at all ?????

As I understand it you can't run tubeless tyres on spoked rims unless they (the rims) have been prepared specifically to do so.

Do a search on Youtube and you'll see what I mean - there are a number of different methods.

I have just had new metzelers fitted to my spoked wheels with inner tubes. Think the tyre wall says tubeless but on spoked wheels you do need the tube usually.

Tiger800 is like Bonneville in that some models are tubeless and some are tube type.
    Quote from handbook :

"Inner tubes must be used with tyres marked TUBE TYPE. Some brands marked TUBELESS may be suitable for use with an inner tube, these are marked on the sidewall ON TUBE TYPE RIM FIT A TUBE"

the handbook does imply the wording may vary, but there should be something to say fitting a tube is OK.

PR3 = Michelin Pilot Road 3, an excellent radial road tyre esp. good for wet grip. If you want to use them you have to go for 110/70R17 & 150/70R17 sizes. Don't think they come in 19" front.

    PR4 trail comes in 110/80R19 & 150/70R17, think that's the closest for T100.

I have the standard Metzeler rear tyre which bearing in mind the age ahs worn badly down the centre. Im looking for something a little more knobbly for the muddy, cruddy bad roads near me. Any suggestions - I don't want top go the full 'Beckham' and have real knobbly ones.

    Thanks

I've just had a new set of Metzlers fitted on my 2011 SE - MEZ 2 rear and the MEZ 4 on the front. I was going to go with the Road Riders but decided to stay with the OME because I didn't want to mix brands thinking the front was good. it wasn't until I'd had the back tire done that it was pointed out to me that the front was goosed too. At a glance the front looked fine but on closer inspection you could see it was badly cupped on the RH side from road camber. so having just had the MEZ 4 fitted I stayed with Metzler on front too. The ones that were on had done 7200 miles and the back still had a good deal of tread left but it had gone flat in the centre hence me changing it. I liked the Metzlers that come on the bike and although I can't really comment on their behaviour in the wet in the dry they stick like shit to a blanket. Next time I will probably try something else just for the comparison but I think most modern tires from a good manufacturer will perform in a similar fashion.

there's a guy on the Triumph RAT forum who fitted Tourance on the rear and Sportec M7RR to the front, not a combination I'd have thought of but his experience is all good. Think I'll do the same when I need to change the front. All stock sizes, all Metzeler, with a creative twist!

Eric, I liked the Z4 front Z2 rear originals for grip and handling - initially, but was disappointed how quickly the Z2 rear squared off, and the handling deteorated.
