Hilarious, funny that fellow and myself are in the same pose. That must have taken some time to find.

my prized piece in my gun safe back home is a Webley and Scott .455 break top revolver with royal armoury markings from a Boer War Regiment . Then Armoury markings from a refurb before WWI, and again before being issued to the Home Guard for WWII. sometime in the 1960s it came to America and the record goes cold. So Ive got a working, firing, serviceable veteran of at least 3 wars in the hands of the English Army before becoming just another American handgun.

Tada! I hope to be finished with Barber College and state testing by our Independence Day (4 July). Once I reach that goal I will move all my worldly possessions down to Mexico Beach, Florida for good to begin setting up the next chapter in my life.

Not really. I knew my man. An adoptive American adventurer seemed appropriate https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Morton_Stanley

Ok Kit arrived, fitted wheels and filed around with my headlight idea, the jury is still out on that, not sure about usability . Tomorrow is new subframe and torque everything up

No picture today, everybody has seen a subframe. I will say that it slipped on with no drama and bolted up straight as an arrow, thanks Ian and Tracey. I will also say that it feels great to have that bit on because now it looks like a proper bike taking shape and not just a pile-o-parts.

Thanks to those who have followed me so far and thanks for encouraging me to push on. It is way too easy to find something else or a reason to stay indoors. By my having promised I would do some little thing everyday, it has forced me to keep moving forward towards the end result. this thread is really for me but I thank you all for watching.

Gentlemen, I still visit the garage everyday. the last few have been a mental wrestling match with electricity. I have been watching the youtube idiots and reading as well as studying wiring diagrams. I am using a Motogadget M-Unit Blue, bar end LED Turn Signals and mini micro switches for run/kill, headlight hi/lo, turn signals and maybe aux lighting. While the Moto gadget stuff is mondo easy; setting up a stand alone ignition, and stand alone charging system prior to all the lighting and switched is daunting, but I and my trusted multi meter are on it.

I deleted the side stand cut out and cut off the big ugly bracket that went with it. I have made progress and I will post more pics very soon.
Thank You Very Much, thats what keeps me plugging away.

BTW the M unit thing is awesome, it does away with all fuses and relays as well as the stupid 24 year old wires and connectors, well worth the 329 euro from Louis Motoradd and if you don't need the bluetooth connectivity for on the fly adjustment and ease of setup, then the old M unit is like 240 euro. watch the Revival Cycle tutorials on youtube for explanations.

Well , I am 95% done with the ignition. I diagramed the wires and split the loom to get the OEM wires that complete the system so I would not miss anything. It looks a mess but I understand it, Now I can shorten the existing or replace with new wires. the only fly was the white/gray wire that is part of the alarm, I thought "cut it" then I see where it might have to be grounded so ...one or the other, easy enough to troubleshoot. Then the Black/Yelloe that is part of the California only emissions system, I thought "cut it" then realized that it also acts as a ground, so solder and ground.

Tomorrow I figure out the charging system, we have a regulator rectifier built in the alternator right? I've been looking for a separate unit but I don't remember removing one.

first photo is throttle choices Im working with, trying to use OEM cable and avoid a universal mess

second photo is mock up of instruments and my super cool adjustable clip on bars from ABM

3 and 4...The wires look like worm soup but thats igniter to coils and timing pick up.

How do you know what amperage / thickness / type of wire, to buy for use as replacement?
I suppose you are going for, like for like, only, where do you find this information?

As much engineering went into these bikes, they were built to a price point. The vast majority of the wiring is 22 gauge (pretty small) I'm using 20 and 18 gauge so I'm using larger wires than OEM all the time. The electric guys say...bigger is better up to a point. which is no help at all. So the answer to your question is like for like but maybe one size up. Plus Im using the M-Unit for most wiring needs and being a digital control unit, it is just plug and play with out the inherent resistance from fuse blocks and analog switches.

All I need is the alternator to charge the battery and power the ignition via the battery. then the ignition must convert timing to spark and all the lights and stuff are easy peezy. although the warning lights , neutral, fan switch temp, and oil pressure must be wired independently just like in the stock loom.

Ok Kiddies, we re closer than we were . I live tested my ignition system and starting circuits. Everything works as it should, so Im up at the house or other down in the basement at my soldering station and im trimming, splicing and finishing the wiring for both. At first I thought just shorten the stock wires but they looked and felt pretty brittle after 24 years so I went with new copper.

Tomorrow is setting up charging circuit and going through the carbs one last time before assembly. Once it starts and runs with minimum instrumentation , its off to the Dyno for a carb tuning session before I start final assembly.

I don't want to say a date but I can't see this going more than another 2 weeks, of course now that I've said that it will be a solid 4-5 weeks.

I could have added a picture of spark but to what end? electric is not the fun bit. BTW: the white gray wire that goes to the non existent alarm from the igniter, needs to be grounded, that was a heart drop/no spark and then full recovery when I grounded it.

All power to your elbow. Nothing like a production engineer to make it work (just) and make it cheaper.

OK friends, I have a stumble, while trying to make my own loom, everything is falling into place except the alternator/ reg output.

The alternator output are red and blue that change to white and brown at the connector. The white looks like it ties into the positive cable circuit between the battery and the starter solenoid . My question is where does the brown one connect to? It looks to me like it wanders around forward until it joins the alternator warning light .

Any advice that saves me trial and error is great.

Everything is cool...Ian came through with a wiring diagram for a digital controller. Great after sale support. Thank you CRK
