Well, I picked this up today and I'm really pleased with it. BUT...that clutch is HEAVY. Lever needs to be span adjustable as well.

Is my bike an exception or do they all have heavy clutch levers? I noticed it when I viewed the bike and wasn't too concerned but 100 miles or so later it's a bit too much. Bike has just under 11k miles in case that's relevant.

    Anyhow, here it is :):

Mine isn't heavy so its probably needing a new cable. Mines done 113000 if that helps!

I would go with Fourbears. the cable is knackered. You will know if you take it of and pull it through a few times cable should be free flowing.
    Regards
    Joe.

Perhaps someone swapped out the standard springs for race ones, or the cable needs oiled.

Well it's 18 years old with low mileage so maybe it's gummed up. I need to check routing as well. I read a post where somebody used an actuator arm from a 2005 Daytona 955 and got the finger pull down from 30lbs to 18lbs on account of the extra length.

Start with a cable I think.

Apparently I've heard you're not supposed to oil a cable on the Sprints, they are all PTFE lined and a lot of the oils erode the PTFE... if it's stiff change the cable first, its easy, just be careful with the routing as it can catch and damage the ignition barrel. I rerouted mine half a dozen times before I got it right. After I had to strip off the fairing cockpit to do the front forks, it seems to be easier to get right now!

Cheers Martin, I read something similar somewhere so I changed the cable. It's weighty but not excessively so. Not sure about the routing yet, not had a chance to ride it as I have bits of fairing in the process of being painted.

Frequent masterbation with the left hand works wonders, Before you know it that clutch will feel hydraulically assisted.

Quick update, in use it's much improved with the span adjustable Triumph lever and new cable. Only just got the bike back on the road, plenty of bits to do without enough hours in the day!
