As far as Westway are concerned the JASO number is the key determinant of quality. They are distributors not makers.
My friend ‘X’ a former senior exec in a big multinational oil company told me they produced so much premium product it could not all sell at a premium price so much of it appeared under other minor labels. It simply wasn’t economic to brew in smaller quantities when they could make a decent profit on all of it. I note that Westway are Castrol distributors. Do not expect any admissions from anyone! The JASO number ......

I have always used what is advised by the manufacturer. Who else would know better than the people who built her?

Yes sir, I meant to say the grade/spec as recommended, and as for the make, it's up to the individual. I'll be more specific in the future.

Don't know about earlier models, but my 1995 handbook recommends Shell Helix Plus 10w/40 for most models in the series with Shell Helix Ultra 5w/40 for the Daytona 1200 and the Super Three.
So that's that particular can of worms officially opened methinks!:scream:

    Hi all.....

This is Westway Lubricants here based in Wombourne UK.

Just want to leave this little statement here....

We NEVER have or NEVER will sell oils that have been formulated using recycled oils. I'ts a false economy....the process of trying to regenerate used oil into new oil costs more than simply using virgin base oils.
You can tell our oils are new by the light colour they are when pouring them, they also do not smell like a used engine oil.

No matter how much you process a used oil it will always be dark, it can't be "filtered" out as this darkness is attributed to the oxidation caused by the combustion process. We are a real British company using only Virgin base oils and additives sourced here in the UK.

The reason why our products are priced so competitively is because we have much lower operating costs to the big brands.
We have no sales reps on the roads, we don't sponsor race teams, we don't spend huge amounts on advertising and marketing, we don't have a chain of distributors all adding their own markup, we simply sell good quality oil at the best prices we can direct to the customer/end user.

We are registered here in the UK and pay UK VAT & Tax....Simples!!

There you go... just thought i'd put this out there as there are a lot of people asking the question.

Thanks guys and if you have purchased from us I thank you very much for your support.

My Trident 900 has nice fresh sump full of Westway's fully synthetic bike engine oil.:)
I spoke to a gentleman there called Paul (the boss?) before I placed my order (mid to late November - oil changed 29/11) and was very reassured by what he had to say. Oil was ordered on a Friday lunchtime and was delivered the next day. Can't fault that!
I have not yet had the chance to ride the bike with its new oil in it:(, though I can vouch for its clarity as per their post above, but it seemed happy enough when I fired it up after the oil had been changed - no different engine noises etc. as can sometimes be the case, and gear selection whilst on the main stand seemed as good as ever.
If all is as good as I think it will be, my inner Yorkshireman will no doubt give me a right bollocking for not having used Westway a couple of years ago when I first discovered them! SIGH!!

I'm sure that I posted somewhere herein that I had changed to Westway. Probably buried in the 'What have you done to your Triumph today' section.

    Edit: I was right - post no.14994, 30/11, p750 if anyone cares!

I'm impressed that Paul took the time to come on a small forum like this to put his point across. On that basis i'll give you a try when I next need some oil.

(and i'm a tight yorkshireman too!)

Had my first run out on my Trident today after its winter hibernation (a bit late, I know, but April saw too much salt on the roads and May was a washout). I was curious to see how the bike ran using Westway's fully synth oil. I am impressed!! Ticked over nicely, clutch and gearbox were smoother than previously and the engine felt smoother than I remembered it and just as powerful. I now see no reason to go back to 'branded' oils. Okay, so I only managed around 100 miles today but it was enough to tell me all I needed to know. Money well spent and excellent value. Cheers Westway. As the bloke on the Plusnet telly advert says ..... "That'll do!"

And just for the cynics amongst you, no I have no connection with Westway other than as a (now) delighted customer.

Oh, and my inner Yorkshireman is now being a right royal PITA constantly slagging me off for using branded oils when there are better and cheaper options to be had.

Thanks for making the effort and letting us know. After @stevethegoolie's glowing report of the oil in a T300 series engine I thought I'd try it out this year in my T312. This discount will be gratefully used.
