I feel the same about these people that sail around the world, by themselves, paddle a bathtub or any of the other daft things. If they get in trouble , tough luck, I wouldn't be wasting the fuel to rescue them, or risk the lives of rescue crew. You took the risk, suck it up and go down with your ship (or bathtub).
It can’t be that difficult to patrol this narrow area of sea and stop them as soon as they set off. Can it? I can see the problems when we are talking about them coming over from Libya, Tunisia etc, that’s a vast coastline to cover but these are setting off from Calais/Dunkirk, what’s that, 25/30 miles?.
We should do the same as the Aussies did. Take them to bumfuck nowhere island in the middle of the bumfuck nowhere sea. They will be safe from the threat they were supposedly fleeing from. Job done. Amazing how they stopped trying to get to Australia when they found this out !!!
Way back when - We were supposed to be on Moonbase Alpha aka Space 1999. That would be an ideal location. Night life is crap- no atmosphere.
Ascension Island inland is pretty lunar, bare arsed and volcanic. Coast quite pleasant but big swells. I was thinking Gruinard.....
I feel the same about those people that go out to sandy places on a close protection contract that gives them 5 figure monthly wages and then expects our lads on minimal wages to risk their lives when they get themselves in the shit.........you decided to take the money and do the job, get your company to rescue you

Just an idea. How to make obscene amounts of cash.Hypothetically let's say you're a multi millionaire business type and your other half is the PM of a country, you get her to sell off all the good parts of that country to people like say that have big airline companies and you use money/work position to get followers on board to support your other half then what you need is a cheaper workforce so by importing loads of thick religious types from fanatical countries not only gets you this but it also means they are easy to control via religion especially if you have a few people in government jobs that also look like them. And there is a hidden agenda in that over time you also eradicate the people of that country that are costing that business to much with there ever increasing expectations without having to use any guns or bombs so you can sell them all to the Arabs and make even more money.
