    Hi everyone
New to this forum, not new to bikes but definitely yes a bit of a born again!
Mine's a 955i 2004 model, that's me on it in my cover photo at Snetterton.
Passed the test on my fab TS125 aged 17 and a half, graduated to an X7 then a GS550e. All beautiful bikes that brough heaps of pleasure on the road (and in bits in the garage!).
Took a four-wheel break though for far too long and at 50 finally decided my need for bike-speed and cornering was too overwhlming. Had already fallen in love with the chunk that the 955i is through a friend's older model so got myself one.
Well, about a £1,000+ of repairs later (siezed swinging arm being the biggest lump) the lessons learnt in buying were all the classics: (a) don't be so keen to buy the first one you've seen (b) take someone competent to be critical with you and (c) knock 'em dead with a basement first offer!
All that said, five+ years later it's still my bike, still starts first time and still causes the hairs on the back of my neck to stand on end. It's a great graunchy lump of a machine I get so much pleasure from. No need to commute with it (tried that once, never again!) I work in central London... 'nuf said. Love touring on it though.
What brought me to this forum is a need to replace a rusted steel triangular bracket that supports the carbon-decorated exhaust can. So no doubt I will be lurking and posting in those threads for advice!
Probably shared way to much for an intro but hey ho, thanks for reading this far!
    Cheers,
    Marek.

Aha, I'll qualify that: X7 was the fancy name for the GT250 X7, I had mine in 1981, so was a step upto the GS550.
As an aside the GS came with a chromed frame and 4 into 1 gorgeous howler. I added a set of upturned drops and, at 18 or thereabouts, thought myself the bees knees :D

I used to run gs550 from where I worked. It was a sales bike and it was such a real wet lettuce! That was the slowest 550 out at the time

I modified my X7 with GT250 Ram Air carbs (2mm bigger) expansion chambers and a bit of porting, was as fast as RD400’s. I too moved up to a 550, only the two stroke triple, didn’t have a four stroke til the Katana 650. Welcome along.
