I am thinking of putting my T120 away for a couple of months over the winter can anybody recommend a fuel stabilizer for this bike?. Thanks Patrick.
TBH for a few months your fuel should be OK, its just if its an older bike it may be susceptible to ethanol corrosion...
Briggs & Stratton Fuel Fit is as good as any. Unless you have SORNed it you might find the odd crisp, dry day tempts you out and obviates the need.
Hi Patrick I have T120 also. I haven’t bothered to SORN as I try and go for a ride every few weeks or so. The only thing I do differently is use a petrol that claims not to have ethanol in it like some of the super unleaded fuels. All the best Mark
You know I have looked for ethanol free but can't for the life of find it. And several time have asked the tellers if they have it. All I get is a blank stare. Ride Safe Joe.
Hi Joe I got the information below from the Esso website. ‘Esso super unleaded petrol (Synergy Supreme+ Unleaded 97) is ethanol free (except in Devon, Cornwall, the Teesside area and Scotland). We would therefore advise anyone who has concerns about the presence of ethanol in petrol to use Synergy Supreme+ – providing they do not fill up in Devon or Cornwall, the Teesside area or Scotland.’
How much older though? My Sprint is 22 this year.... Also, does fuel stabiliser stop 'varnish'? I have similar problems with my land rover, but with the diesel. This low sulphur stuff is not friendly to the seals in the injection distributor pump. And that's without leaving it, that's just running it.
My T160 usually sits with fuel over the winter, never had any problems fires first kick as usual and the carbs are not affected, it shouldn't affect an EFI fuel system anyway.
I think it was early 2000's when the manufacturers accounted for it with fuel lines etc. deffo not 22 years ago ! I used this Ethomix stuff stuff https://www.frost.co.uk/protect-your-vehicle-against-ethanol
If any of my bikes stand for any time i always brim them, modern bikes don't suffer the problems of older carbureted bikes but on my older bikes i use a Lucas fuel additive thats for use with ethanol and my carbs have been cleaner since using it.
Just bought a bottle of the ethomix. From Frost, it's plus £20 shopping to me, so looked on amazon, bottle was £2 dearer, but shipping was a fiver, so got it off amazon for £1 less than the shipping from Frosts. Oh yes, who was selling it on Amazon? Why, Frosts, of course! Daft huh?
Just stick in some (double dose) of Millers Petrol Power Ecomax in the tank and run it through system before storage and it should be fine.
