The pundits are telling us that the future of motorcycling is going to be very different. We are on the brink of an evolution powered by low emissions requirements, non fossil fuelled drive systems, artificial intelligence and tracking technologies that will have a significant impact on the bikes we ride and the way we ride them.

We can have all of that now. But it would be a brave manufacturer that fits tracking to any bike. The AI shouldn't really effect us, but the non-fossil fuel will eventually.

I'm all for electric vehicles. Sits in the garage charging till you need it. 250 mile range and somewhere around 125 bhp would suit me fine. The torque from electric motors would be like riding a big v-twin, but rev up like a 4 IL. No need to stop for petrol. A 1/2 hour fast charge available at a café. They need to improve the batteries (weight and capacity) to get level with fossil fuels and we're away. I've ridden one of the KTM electric motoX bikes, they are awesome. So much easier to ride quickly than a 2-stroke 125. No gears to worry about, just your line and braking. If you've not had a go, get one soon.

    But..........

They need to sort out electricity generation first. Nuclear backup to tidal/wave power/hydro power generation in this part of the world, solar in sunnier climes. Whilst we're still burning shit, might as well be petrol in my bike, as coal in a power station.

Currently gas accounts for 46%, Coal 31%, Nuclear 14% and renewables the remainder. So we are a long way off.

But I would have an EV.

Eventually, everything changes. Not always for the best. I see little we can do about this, except to roll with the changes!

Nothing to beat sitting with 4/5 gallons of 5 Star, ( for you youngsters, look it up), between your legs, my Commando (shock, horror, probe, scandal) used to pink on 4 Star.

I'm all for better technology and improvements as long as I can have the type of 'antique' bike in the garage that I want to ride. The improvements will probably attract new riders and make safer bikes. I also like quiet bikes (part of why I like Triumph) and an electric bike would probably make my ride more enjoyable if I could afford one.

Where I stop supporting new technologies is any notion about self-driving vehicles. An experienced rider can generally think ahead, detect nuances, and 'size-up' most of the 4 wheelers to avoid a problem. Self-driving vehicles may react instantly with no indications. I also find myself 'laughing' at the new Bosch jet thruster assist to keep your bike planted in the turns. I wouldn't want to get a leg cramp, stretch my leg out while going around a turn, and get it blasted off.

With all of the above said, there is nothing better than having two large gas-sucking jugs (T-Bird Commander) thumping up and down between my legs.

Tidal power is one way to reliably boost electric supplies... but greenies don’t like it- saying it’ll disrupt too much sea life... like oil tankers and rigs, nuclear power stations and off shore wind turbines arent?

Interested in electric bikes when battery efficiency is improved... but as for AI... I’ve read 2001, I’ve watched Deamon Seed and I’ve a fucking windows computer that needs more updates than it has operational time. Not my boiled leaf beverage!!!

Can only think electric bikes would make life even less safe for motorcyclists and the pedal cycling/walking public ... had a Toyota Prius about 10 years ago and it was a menace as no one could hear it so would walk/cycle in front of it... really should have come ready supplied with someone walking in front waving a red warning flag...a silent motorbike is not something I would want in any case as my lovely Scrambler exhaust note must, I am sure, be a delight to all who hear it... well it is to me ha ha ... on the front of the latest Motorcycle Sport/ Leisure mag it says there is an article on riderless motorcycles ... now that sounds a whole lot of fun... I'll stay stay home while the bike goes off for a jaunt by itself or perhaps with my wife on pillion...:scream:
