Got my 10 plate striple serviced by old school bike mechanic. Picked it up told me ems light on and said run it from cold to hot 3/4 times to sort. Did this still on. Went fr ride 50 miles then turned it off. Left it 10 minutes then tried start it. No tickover and ran erratic. Took bike back to him he stripped tank off n checked everything n didn’t find anything wrong. Told me only way get it run ok when hot is start it n take revs to 6000 fr about 5 seconds. Starts ok when cold. Has anybody come across this b4 and how do I sort, thanks Mick.

Thanks! If it was showing a fault light and its not hot starting the main cause on most EFI systems is the ECU coolant temp sensor, by default it runs a rich mixture if this is faulty, so making hot start a pain, but is fine when cold.
Other than that if he has maybe fiddled with the ICV setting this could have compounded another existing fault, need a diagnostic to save faffing about.

All Street Triples are EFI. And no Striple that I've ever known has needed to be '... started and revved to 6000 for about 5 seconds ...' to run OK when hot!

In terms of the problems being experienced by the OP, I would suggest that there is a logical path to follow here :-

Were the current problems evident when you left the bike with the "old school mechanic"? If not, then you need to take it back and ask what he did to cause the EML and/or if he can decode the EMU for the EML cause.

Depending on the nature of the EML warning, yes, the light SHOULD reset after three cold to hot cycles .... BUT that's bugger all use if it doesn't tick over and is running erratically anyway.

It sounds like there's something been dislodged or not re-connected correctly, probably a sensor connection somewhere. Easy to do with all the stuff crammed in under the tank of a Striple.

If the bike was running OK before it was serviced, then it needs to go back to the mechanic to get it running properly again. At worst he should be willing to pay for a diagnostic check read of the EMU and start again from the results of that.

It might be time to consider cutting your losses and finding someone more experienced with the fairly complex electronics on this bike and getting the codes read before deciding what to do next.

Hope it gets sorted soon - there's no finer bike when they're running properly ... as you probably know!

    Best of luck.

    Regards,

    Adie

Yes I think your right. He is an old friend from schooldays and he normally only deals in pre 80s bikes so al av bite the bullet bn get it diagnostic checked. Thanks for your reply. Mick.
