I wasn't allowed one as a youngster and was steered straight on to cars. I've been building and fiddling with them ever since, but this spring decided to get a bike licence – and an old bike.
Hello Will and a warm welcome to the forum. Glad you got into bikes in the end, what’s your plan with the bonnie, ride as is or restore.
It was on eBay earlier this summer. It had stood for 20 years after being imported from the States. I've finally got it running just about right (although the carbs are currently in bits after I put them in a mate's ultrasonic cleaner). I'm torn about leaving it basically as is, or restoring it. At the moment I'm swinging towards the former, with maybe a coat of lacquer on the tank just to keep it where it is. But I'd like to strip the engine and get it properly balanced. A mate had his apart and did this – the factory was literally throwing them together by this point, and it'd be nice to reduce the vibes a bit.

Thanks for the welcome. As for riding safe, I ride like a little old lady. I still haven't really got the measure of this biking thing, so I'm taking it easy – which isn't hard on this bike!
Welcome, but remember, it's only old once and has that patina once. Unless you fancy throwing tons of money down a bottomless hole to turn it into a trailer queen. Been there and have got the cuts, scabs, and vocabulary to prove it.
I agree. I think I'll lacquer the tank and I may well strip the engine, but I won;t be getting into any polishing.
Change the obvious, and ride it. By the way, people would pay through the nose to have a bike in that condition or at least pay someone to make it "used".

Hi. Just to let you I booked on to the Forum to spy on others who have various problems with their bikes and Steal there advice. I own 4 Triumph Triples modern and classic. As a mechanic i treat them with respect in the W/shop and ring there necks on rhe road/track. I have a LAUNCH for Cars but whzy zo I buy to reset the service light. etc ps my T160 dont need thos trickery. ☘ Tegards Dougie.
