    That's more like it!
As a side issue, I did wonder whether the traction control on the RS would have saved it?

Don't think it would on oil (or ice) like that, once the tyre's let go on either of those it's only luck if it comes back.

    Wow
It was probably a truck with no filler cap on the tank, I work in transport and it is surprising common for fuel caps to go 'missing' when parked in services etc. The fire brigade did turn up very quickly and clean it up as they were worried that someone else might end up on their arse.

It's the compression on the inner shell lining when your head hit it as the helmet hit the road that would make me replace it.....
It did it's job though! :)

You can get the helmet double checked by the importers though....

*just checked, you can get it tested but according to Shoei.....
"Can I have a helmet inspected after an accident?
After an accident, a helmet can only be inspected by the manufacturer itself. In this test, the helmet is destroyed. You only get to know if the helmet was safe. There is no other way to determine this. Modern motorcycle helmets are designed to absorb as much energy as possible during an impact. Therefore they are destroyed. Even a small impact can damage a helmet. Often this damage is invisible to the layman. Every helmet involved in an accident should be exchanged."

Really feel for you mate, thank goodness the damage to yourself was relatively minor, hope you make a quick recovery back to being fully fighting fit and the insurance settle your claim without too much f@nnying around.

Much as I would like to take said lid off you hands, it does sound wonderful  I do actually have another Shoei lid that is absolutely fine. That said I did take out the Helmet & Leathers insurance, I think it only goes to £900 though, so just about cover the leathers!

Glad you are pretty much okay, Billy.
Spilt diesel is a menace, but so is petrol, as I nearly found out many years ago in York - a van (I think) in front of me must have just filled up and as he went round a right hand corner he deposited a fair quantity of petrol all over the road (I guess he had forgotten to replace his filler cap, or he didn't have one). I just caught the edge of the spillage and felt the bike start to slide, but somehow managed to avoid the road jumping up and smacking me in the face! At least petrol evaporates quickly.
Get well soon and let us know how you get on with the insurance claim. It's worth knowing who the good guys are at renewal time.
