After cleaning the bike a bit more I would like to touch the sump where the black has come off, any recommendations on a good mstch to the original Finnish, thinking of trying Hamerite smoothie Satin black!

I used the Hammerite smooth satin black on my S3 sump and it works a treat. Just be sure to get the loose original paint and any grime off first.
Also used it on the horn and rad sides...

I used one spray can. Plenty for a good few coats. If you’re just doing the sump you’ll only use about half the tin.

I had a nightmare when doing my bike, I discovered the average paint is not petrol proof, it just washes straight off. I also found that high temperature paints need to get up to 150 degrees before they cure properly and become petrol resistant. I don't know about hammerite I know in the old days it used to be resistant to just about anything but they changed the formulation. Best result I have is to use standard paints and then a few coats of Motip clear lacquer, which is available in matt or gloss. Of all the experiments I conducted this stuff gave me by far the best results.

Just found a can of PJ1 Fast Black Satin engine case paint down the back of my boiler, so will use that!

Just be aware it is not petrol proof unless you can bake it at over 150 degrees.

It’s for round the sump, if I’ve got petrol there then I’ve bigger worries!

But if your carbs overflow it will wash the paint off. Obviously your choice but I wouldn't use the stuff. It will never cure because your engine will never get hot enough.

I had a minor touch up too recently where I had scratched a very small section trying to remove datadot runs that turned into a nightmare for me(I fecking hate the stuff and swore if ever I had to buy another vehicle be it 2 or 4 wheels- if it has been data dotted I will rather walk away) I bought a high heat aerosol that ended up not matching the paint colour, after it dried it look grey in comparison. I sanded the spot with a 1000 grit paper and cleaned using scotchbrite and then painted it again. Though the scratches is gone now the little repair is more gloss than the original paint. I'm leaving it to cure proper now and will then flat it slightly with a 1000 grit again to make it dull and the polish it up again to try and match the gloss as best I can. It's in a spot where no one in the world will ever see or notice but the mere fact of me knowing it's there drives me nuts almost to the point where I would sell it because of that. Bad maybe but that's just me and how pedantic I can be when it comes to the love affair with them two wheeled things.

I have just come over from riding 2 strokes for 12 years, so have my fair share of fun with carbs!

I have used scottoiler 365 for protection for ages now on engines as its so cheap and it washes off with soap :)

Mine is a 2012 but I’ve only owned for 6 months, problem on mine is only around sump, mainly the area of the sump bolt area.
Rest of engine paint is fine.

I've never ever worried about the sump ! If the paint is chipped you've been riding it !! I have only ever seen my bike mechanic on his back looking up under the bike , wait that's me ! And I've usually been looking for much bigger problems than painted sump being chipped.
