2019. Grand Meet Up. Location Suggestion Poll.

Fwiw, East of England is relatively traffic free at weekends. I rode the Lincolnshire Wolds a glorious sunny afternoon a few weeks back and nary a car or tourist caravan in sight. Lovely bendy, rolling roads too, though lacking in the dramatic scenery we've become used to on GMU.

There are five or so bunk houses in the area. I know one has hotels and b&b's close by. I'll happily go check them out if the area is a potential goer.

Apart from that, my vote would go to Tyndrum if we aren't having an Annual Scottish Road Trip II. Fabulous ride out country. But even then it's a long old trip from the South of England and a stop over makes sense, which I'm more than happy to do (and organise).

Happy to do Bellingham again too.

 

I'm not interested in watching bikes go flying past. Much rather use my valuable holiday time riding mine (and, yeah, yeah, I know).

 

I agree. Lincolnshire Wolds. Welland Valley. To name just a couple. I will go out and check a few locations. I'll post details of the bunk houses anyway to give an idea. There's one out near Cadwell Park I know of, and a couple near Kings Lynn that look decent.

 

When it comes to people putting up a proposal,i think a lot of folk are put off because they think/have heard it is difficult..it's not!
If you are proposing somewhere local to yourself you will know all the roads in side out so you shoudn't need to do any recky of routes,(i would suggest contacting the local council nearer the time to check for roadworks /diversions) you will know places to stop for coffee,photo and lunch breaks that can cater for a large group so no recky needed there..as for accomodation a bunkhouse near a shop and a pub with a few B&Bs and hotels near by shoudn't be that difficult to find (it's certainly not in Scotland) So anyone half thinking about proposing a venue do it!!

 

if a GMU were to be held in Scotland it should be held mid week and the first half of May would be best for 3 reasons weather/quieter/ and after May is when certain councils go daft with the road chips even when the roads don't need sorting

Bang on Ron, the location of any GMU will only be where someone is prepared to do the organising.

Not only bunkhouse accommodation, b&b as well please and an area with good roads.

I think the question that needs to be asked, who is prepared to organise the GMU 2019 and we go from there.

 

I will check out locations round our way - There are bunkhouses. Just need to check if hotels and b&b's are nearby. I know there are plenty of good ride out routes, but would ideally be rides on Saturday and Sunday with departure on the Monday to get the best traffic free days.

When proposals are coming in, I will happily chuck Bellingham into the mix again. Dead easy for me to organise, and would just tweeks routes to add variety.

Few folk have said they would like to go back, and i will chuck it in again, happily.

 

One thing that bear in mind when choosing a location is that we had 17 people out of the 32 attending stopping in a hotel. As much as I liked Bellingham it only has 1 reasonable priced hotel and I don’t think it could accommodate that many. So others would need to stop further afield. Which is not great when trying to get together.
