Please forgive my naivety, but decided to treat the old girl to a gold chain and some rings, half hour job I reckoned. I got stuck in, only to realise the front sprocket cover isn’t a standalone sub-casing, but is actually a multiple compartment (including oil retaining section for the gear change shaft), so the time I put aside today is wasted because I now have to purchase a casing gasket, fresh oil and I may as well change the oil filter whilst I’m at it...
    Dagnabit... read the feckin’ manual!,,

    :D:poop:

And be careful when removing and replacing that cover otherwise you'll be doing it again to replace the gear change shaft seal .

Make sure you have a socket and long bar to fit the nut too or an air gun, as the nut can be damn tight ......

Aaah ..... the joys of changing the chain and sprockets on an early carb'd Triumph.
I would prefer to use an air rifle with which to shoot the bastid who designed the method of covering the gearbox sprocket rather than just an air gun.
Ooops .... I see .... air gun as opposed to air pistol. Silly me!
Still right about using an air rifle though!:grinning:

I must confess, every other bike I recall changing the front sprocket on... I’ve never had to drain the sump and change the gasket...
    [yeahright]I suspect it’s a quaint but endearing touch... [\yeahright]
