Hi all, As the title says, here’s a 5 cent fork preload adjuster for the Showa fork on a 2018 765R. This tool may work for other bike makes & models as well. I don’t know why Showa designed the preload screw the way they did. I didn’t have a screwdriver wide enough so I had to be creative. It worked fairly well for me. I didn’t even have to take off the handlebar. If you can’t get one, I’d sell you one for 5 cents + shipping and handling
Very handy if you lose the little adjuster tool that is under the seat when supplied (like me!), now about the shipping costs!!!
Oh, I guess the previous owner did adjust the preload and maybe stored the triumph adjuster somewhere else, that would have been under the seat. Thanks for this info.
If you look under seat or tail unit, if there are some basic tools there to the side you should see a round recess which is where the tool is, unless like mine it has fallen out! Crap place to put it!
Yes, there's a round cutout under the passenger set where it looks like it can hold that tool. But the tool is missing
On a similar theme, I have had occasion to sacrifice a 1p coin to take up the slack when the only spanner I had available was a bit too big. Worked well enough but my boss wouldn't replace the coin I had used and, sadly, damaged. I took out my anger and frustration on my wagon, with a subsequent increase in diesel consumption! That'll larn him!!
Here is the tool I used to adjust compression and rebound. It’s a picture hanger. It also worked really well. No need to take off the handlebar. I have a limited supply of these so pm asap if you want one
Always kept a 50p piece for fork preload when I had the SprintST's. (would have been the old bigger 50p's)
Attention UK riders interested in this 5c tool. You do not need to pay for the shipping all the way from MN (or from any other state before any of the rest of you US-based guys chime in) as..... I have one here in Buckinghamshire. Must have got it in some change once from an unscrupulous shop and I've kept it ever since. PLUS, no need to rush, I have three, yes THREE, in a bag of change left over from my last business trip to the States. The first four to send a stamped addressed envelope to me with a crisp tenner in it to cover postage and my expenses will get one of these wonderful additions to your toolkit. If you don't know my address just send me a postcard and I'll get back to you ASAP.
Fair enough - you can have the franchise for the East Anglia region for, let's say, £500 setup fee and 20% of your ongoing gross sales. Nice doing business with you
