Yes i know we havnt had the 2018 one yet but i needed to tell you about my experience today on my jolly ride home. I decided to take a detour scenic route home and by god was i glad i did. The roads and veiws were stunning. I left my B&B near kilarney and headed to the coast to ride my way back via Cork. Anyway i got distracted when talking to some local bikers on route. They told me to try some routes that they use . They were out of my way but the sun was shinning and i was in no rush . Was i glad i took their advice. wow, it was amazing. All i kept thinking was this is just the place for a GMU. The roads were incredible and the scenery breathtaking. Pictures dont do it justice but youll get the gist. Sorry about the ZZR getting in the way. It was such a joy to ride on the straights and twisty roads .....sorry Triumph oh and not forgetting the cable car that they bring cows over to the island in . People as well . its somthing else tenner gets you there and back .
Go for it Wayne..put my name down! i did sugest Ireland for last years GMU but like Scotland i think the majority thought it was too far,...could be a seperate "Irish road trip" though
If you organise it.....they will come And me....get your finger out Wayne I’ll need dates accommodation etc
Early days but let me look into it. Another option would be a Triumph Forum meet at on the Bike fest we can do our own ride outs or join theres. we get the best of everything then. Free entertainment. Loads of bikes to look at. Fantastic atmosphere . only thing might be accommodation that weekend. Unless we find some where away from the fest and ride in. Down side to that is those who drink. Camping is abundant. .The fest is really good. Some great music and bikes take over the whole town with the locals joining in. Theres lots of bike groups and clubs there but its not clicky. Lots of Harleys but we can forgive them for that.if you havnt ever been its worth the trip. Oh and you can take a Harley out for a test ride for free. Just need to show your insurance and licence. Another option would be not that weekend and make our own entertainment.
Whether GMU or First Annual Road Trip Ireland (FARTI), for logistical reasons I'd avoid Bikefest weekend, or at least that part of the world on that date. Whichever we end up with, count me in.
We've done England, Scotland and Wales this year. So maybe a GMU on the emerald Isle!!!! I would avoid the festival, accommodation would be a problem and camping is crap.
Im just giving options. We can have the place to ourselves if its not bikefest weekend. Its a nice venue anyway
For the extra couple of quid, not to carry the tent, put it up in the rain (This is Ireland, there is a reason it's so green), sleep on a hard lumpy bit of grass, listen to the 10 nearest tents snore/fart/etc, try to get leathers textiles on in a tent cos the rain / midgies and then try to pack a wet tent wearing your full gear cos it's pissing down. I'll happily part with a few £££'s, just to not do this. Plus trying to sort breakfast is a pain, and ends up in a cafe, which costs more than simply buying stuff and heating it at the bunkhouse. Loads of Bunkhouses around, so freedom can be had without the lack of a decent nights sleep/breakfast/somewhere to sit, somewhere to dry wet kit.........................
