Would anyone know what tubleless rims would be a straight swap onto a 2016 T120. This year and last year its been the brake down truck for puncutures. Mo.
Alpina do tubeless spoked rims but they are VERY expensive. About £2000 a pair I believe. There is a wheel builder in Somersezt that does them slightly cheaper and there are various kits avail to convert your std. rims to tubeless.
I'm sorry bentago I don't understand your reply. The wheel builders I mentioned make bespoke wheels for any and all bikes. I didn't say anything about alloy wheels.
Its a pretty straight forward DIY job to convert the T120/Thruxton1200 wheels to tubeless. Did my Thruxton at Christmas using 3M4412N tape, a weather proofing product used by the building industry. Heaps of info on this mod on the Net as it is not just Triumph owners doing this. The Triumph Rat Forum has a lot of discussion and advice. This is what the tape looks like when fitted.
The issue I can see with that is there is no bead to keep the tyre on the rim, if it deflates there is nothing to stop the tyre dropping into the well of the rim. Simply making the rim air tight can't be the way to convert to tubeless tyres, can it?
I have the mag wheels on the Bonny tubeless I doubt if they would be a match onto the T120 but tubed or tubeless if you pick up a screw or a nail theyre both going to deflate to be honest.
The rims are tubeless, the safety bead is clearly visible in my photo. The rims also carry a part number which includes the code for tubeless so it is not a matter of opinion. As I stated go to Triumph Rat Forum, do a search and read the threads, Hundreds of owners have done this, either with 3M, the Outex kit, or using potions of their own. It is safe and simple.
I guess you have never experienced a high speed blow out of a tube. There is a huge difference between the instantaneous loss of air as a tube tears, and the slow leak from a tubeless.
I went with a set of wheels from Canyon. . . for all the reasons listed above, not to mention shaving some weight and improving handling.
Did the rims with Loctite 290 and has worked 100%. 3000 miles later and no problems at all. Just over £20 for everythig. Mo.
Great! 290 is fine on the steel wheels, but for anyone with a Thruxton (or aluminium rims on a Bonne), tape is necessary as 290 is not suitable for aluminium. The Loctite spec sheet makes this clear but these days reading instructions seems to be a dying art.

Sorry, I know this is an old thread but I've been looking for info on converting my rims to tubeless. I found the guy in Devon that builds Triumph wheels and had a word with him about it. He advertises a tubeless conversion for £95 per wheel but only seems happy to do it to rims he supplies as he's not happy with the quality of the Triumph rims. To have my wheels rebuilt with new Excel rims, polished stainless spokes and nipples, tubeless conversion and a new set of tyres I'm looking at just under £1200. I realise a lot have done this themselves but I do a lot of miles touring every summer and don't really trust my diy capabilities. I considered Alpina wheels but speaking to him he wasn't keen on their quality or after sales service, I know he'd say that because he wants the sale, but I believe him because I've read a couple of things along those lines. I'm just giving myself a few days before I commit myself...any opinions either way?
