My first post..... With a new T100 I am searching in vain for lockable and secure side cases/luggage - for European touring. I loved my Givi's on my old V-Strom but can't seem to find an equivalent that will fit the newer T100. I don't have a rear rack as yet. Any Monokey that anyone knows will fit? Any suggestions would be very welcome. I do love this bike...... about my 20th in the past 40 years
It’s coming up to almost a year since I bought my 2016 T120. I’ve done quite a bit so far, new Motone front and rear indicators, Lucas rear light, Triumph headlight cover, cut and painted front and rear mudguards black, Gasser customs exhausts and bar end mirrors, removed the tank knee pads, just had the BC slammer seat last week and installed and removed the TEC x pipe as it was deafening with the new exhausts! Oh, and built a home for her!
Hello Laurence, I have a not so new 2015 Bonneville Newchurch. I struggled with luggage as well. I had been down the hard Givi box and side cases road with my VFR. My bike has a standard Triumph chrome rack fitted. I bought a Givi adaptor plate which enabled a top box to be fitted, but when I saw the overall look that was produced I instantly changed my mind In the end I decided that a soft luggage set up was more in keeping with the bike and I have Kriega dry packs, 30 and 20 litre capacity which strap to the rack and Kriega duo 36 litre saddle bags, which of course necessitated the fitting of pannier rails. I accept that these bags are not lockable in a truly secure fashion, but with the limited options out there and my not liking the hard luggage look, this is a workable and decent looking set up, for me at least. Only my personal opinions, hope it is of some use to you? Curly
That's good to know, thank you Curly. the Kriega look well made, costly though for panniers, they are about the same price as the Givi E360 Monokey hard cases, and are they actually dry? I do miss my Givi's. The topbox didn't look out of place on my V-Strom, but on the Bonnie.. not so sure. Useful on a tour of course as they take the helmet securely, so did my side opening sidecases. I have written to both Givi and Kappa this week to ask what they suggest or offer for the models. Givi do the hard side cases for the T120, I fail to see why they don't fit our frames. I will revert when I hear back from these two companies. Thank you for the reply, have a good weekend.
Laurence, the truth is that my panniers are due for their first outing to Spain next month, so I can not truthfully vouch for their being 100% waterproof, however if they are anything like my dry bags then they will be, for sure. Last year when we went to Spain I got a bit paranoid about leaving the dry bags attached to the bike whilst it was unattended on the overnight ferry, but I needn't have bothered as it turned out. This year I will be leaving the panniers and the 30 litre dry bag attached, just removing the 20 litre bag and the tank bag. What I do in an effort to make the bags not so easily removable is cable tie them to the rack in several locations, nowhere near secure I agree, but it has to be better than nothing at all? I have also bought combination " D " type helmet locks with lengthy steel cable shrouded in plastic. I am as happy as I can be to leave our helmets and jackets attached to the bike using this set up, obviously I wouldn't want to leave it for hours on end and you just know that some locations are not feasible for this. It's all a bit of a leap of faith to be honest! Curly
Sounds like it works though. I used plastic ties for my leather saddlebags on my Bullet 500 EFI, they kept them secure for the three years I had that brilliant bike. They stayed on when I sold it too. I will upload a piccy of my bikes.
