Hi all. Odd one this. I've had my Thruxton R for 5 months and all has been fantastic. But this month after a long trip to Cornwall the clock and trips staying resetting every night and the bike doesn't want to start immediately. Battery? Apparently not. Bulldog Triumph thought that and replaced the battery under warranty... to no effect. Got it booked in for a few weeks time and keeping it happy overnight by plugging into an Oxford Oximiser, but since the dealership seem perplexed I wondered if anyone has suffered similar issues. A friend reckons it may be fixed with a stall update to the ecu to prevent stalling and drain on the battery. Thoughts?
I would look for a faulty ground wire as already mentioned. The rest of this is just me thinking out loud. Although it's not likely to be the problem, you might want to look at the connector going to the instrument panel. It might have a broken wire, or bad/corroded contacts in the plug. Does the bike magically reset itself in the middle of the night, or could it be happening when you turn it off? If it is when you turn it off (I'm not sure about this) maybe it is linked to the ignition switch. Also, do you have an alarm on your bike? If yes, I imagine some of the other members might have comments on the specific alarms.
Aha! We have an answer thanks to Bulldog Triumph. My Thruxton has the track racer fairing... when it wad fitted it looks like the wires to the clocks were too tight and pulling slightly on full lock (when it's parked overnight the steering lock is on). This was causing the clocks to reset and strangely also causing some mild drain on the battery... not sure how this would happen but hey ho, all sorted now! Woo hoo! I love my bike!
