Hello. Thank you for the add. I currently ride a 2005 Tiger 955i cast wheel model and have owned it since 2009. Yesterday, the rev counter lost count and the speedo was intermittent in working. I had ridden 110 miles, arrived home and left it around 3 hours before putting her away. When I went to start her, battery was dead. The dash lights had become quite dim for the last 20 miles or so. I have charged the battery over night so will test it later. Any ideas what would be the cause?

Battery.first and by far the lead suspect is the battery its self. They don't last for ever.

Battery every time. Even if you think it's not - it will be!

Thank you for the ideas, the battery is only 11 months old and it is a moto batt sealed gel. Is there a better battery?

I normally use Yuasa batteries for my bikes plus a battery charger/conditioner so never have any problems in the volts dept.

Hello Neil and welcome to the forum :)

I’ve had a moto batt gel battery for about 5 years on my ‘84 Honda CB700 and it never fails to turn the old girl over and start. The moto batt has never been hooked up to an optimate etc.
I can’t praise moto batt enough.

First, welcome to the forum! I'm with the others with regard to checking the battery, however, if the overnight charge brings it back up and it holds voltage for a while, you are going to need to look at the charging system. If the battery holds >12.5 volts, start the bike, idle it at ~2,000 rpm and test the voltage at the battery. It should read ~14.5 volts. If it does, the charging system is most likely working OK. If it is above ~15.0 volts, you may have a bad rectifier/regulator. If it is below ~14.0 volts, you will need to do some additional testing to see if you have 1) a bad alternator, or 2) a bad rectifier/regulator.

Hello thank you all for your warm welcome and advice. The battery is at 80% at the moment so want to wait for full charge. Any recommendations on getting a new generator or regulator/rectifier? Is it worth going genuine new or other?

    Hi Neil.
If the stator and/or the reg/rec are suspect don't replace with genuine Triumph parts - unless you are a multi-millionaire. Electrexworld will no doubt do direct replacements (I haven't checked but they supplied both for my 955i Daytona when I had it) which will be MUCH cheaper and probably better!
