You forgot AF, BSF and BA. Why did we have so many standards in the past. Metric certainly made it easier in that respect
Attempts to standardize a type just made it all the more confusing as even after 69/70 when Triumph had gone over to UNF/UNC, Whitworth and BA were still in the mix lol.
Brilliant find Mr O! No one on here is at all jealous! I have loads of old Imperial spanners and some Whitworth sockets somewhere if you need them
Just to give some idea on 'new' price, in '76 I nearly bought the Bonneville Silver Jubilee, that was £1020 otr then, Nelson & Fords, Basildon.
Haha, too late, I just bought them all, but I might be able to give you a good deal, adding on inflation etc, how about 12 Grand for cash?
One of my mates older brother had one, would have been 1982 at the time. Just left it parked at the side of the road in front of his mam's house in Sheffield. No cover or anything, just sat out in all weathers. Always gave an admiring glance every time went to call on him.
Oh, sorry mate, just sold the last one! This was the year we bought a house in Hullbridge for £11000, sold last year for £230000!
Bought a 73’ Triumph Tr5 Trophy Trail 500 cc twin at the local Flee market (find). 3500 miles setup as a off-road racing bike. New tires, tubes, plugs, new petcocks, and a title for $180. The bad was it’s locked up. Shot oil in cylinders for a week with no luck. Took the head off and found a roach motel 1-1/2” in the cylinder and into the head, thru the exhaust valve, and into the exhaust pipe. Had to heat, oil, and carefully beat the piston out. I bored it .040 over and just barely cleaned up. It had sat up over 10 years. My suggestion to anyone who is setting up your bike is make sure both valve are close! My (garage) find is an all original minus the battery, 72’ BSA 650 Lightening with 520 miles. It was left at Jacksonville Beach through many years of Northeasterlys, passing hurricanes, 100 percent humidity 35 in the morning 70-80 during the day. It turned all chrome to rust bubbles and flakes. Did I mention a friend gave it to me free because he moved. I’m going to make it into a Cafe bike. He chose me because of my rebuild of my 73’ Triumph X75 Hurricane. I have since thrown a rod and will rebuild the triple. I ride it to enjoy and shifting a Hurricane triple at 8,000 rpm’s is something you just have to experience! Did I mention it was given to me by the second owner and child hood friend for “free also”. Just purchased a 99’ Triumph Adventurer 900 with 5350 miles on the clock. Mint and feels like a Hurricane big brother. For cruising a ride a 02’ Kawasaki Voyager XII full dresser. I tried to upload picture but it says the file is to large. Any suggestions, if one at a time do they stay together?
