    Hi all,
Looking for help with a problem with my Mk 1 speed triple, the bike is very slow to return to tick over and sometimes sticks at about 3k, the throttle action is ok, returns with a crack, so don't suspect the cable. Have checked for air leaks around Carbs, all ok.
Also have noticed that the rev-counter does not return to zero when turning off the engine, stays about 500 rpm, it only returns to stop once ignition is turned back on, have tried another rev-counter and it does exactly the same. Cant see how the two problems are linked but the chance of two tachos being faulty is strange.
Bike as done just over 10K, starts and idles ok and runs ok other than this, my next plan is to balance the carbs.
Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Pat

    Welcome to the Forum Pat

Might be worth giving the throttle cable a bit of attention just to be on the safe side anyway. If the bike has only done 10K how long was it sitting before you brought it as it might be worth looking at also getting the carbs cleaned out to make sure that there is no crud making the jets stick.
On my Daytona 1000 and Trident I use Marvel Mystery Oil in the tank every time I fill up as its meant to help keep the fuel system clean.

    Cheers

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for the reply. I have owned the bike since 2002, its a 1997 reg and I got it with only 1k on the clocks. I dont do many miles a year on it, a few road miles and the odd track day each year, the bike is stored over winter with fuel stabilizer in the tank and as never been a problem until now. I am running a bottle of Redline fuel system cleaner through it at the moment to see if it helps. Thanks for the tip on Marvel Mystery oil will try it once problem fixed.
Will have a look at the carbs and balance them.
    Thanks
    Pat

    No Worries

How do you get on with the bike as it is one that I have on my wish list, along with the Super III, the Thunderbird Sport and the T509 Speed Triple.
I do like the early Hinckley Bikes but may need a bigger garage as I already have bugger all room now with 3 bikes

    Hi Steve,
Its a great bike, still enjoy riding it after 12 yrs. Its one of the last Mk1 Speed Triples, in black, 6 speed version, gold calipers etc. Like all the early Hinckley bikes its a bit heavy and carries its weight quite high, which makes it hard work on the twisty bits, especially on the track. But on the road the weight makes it feel solid and well planted, as for performance its never going to compete with modern sports bikes but is adequate for a naked road bike, what it lacks in performance, it more than makes up for in looks and sound. They seem to be getting quite rare now and finding a good one quite difficult, if you want one now might be the time to buy, they

I am after a Mark 1 Speed at some stage and know where there is a very tidy 750 Speed Triple (very rare) but have got to go and have a look at a Super III next week as I have been after one of these for ages.

By the way if you think you bike is heavy then try keeping up with a 2013 KTM RC8 on some fairly quickish roads on my Daytona 1000, my arms and shoulders felt it the next day. Mind you I could just about hear the guy swearing under his helmet when he couldn't get away from me
