    Hi lads.
A French friend of mine is considering visit for a few days, and having a wee blast together on the NC500 for 2-3 days.

Without any ferries to Scotland, and [as far as I know] no much other way to bring a motorcycle directly from scotland to france, I was thinking of a possible rental. But a 5mn worth of a 5mn search (ergo quite superficial) only gave me quite hefty prices.

If anyone has ever rented for a reasonable price, speak now !
    Cheers guys.

I don't think I've ever seen bikes to rent at a reasonable price!

I suspect in the cold, wet UK there are two issues; insurance and seasonality.

Tom and Harry might be ok, but Dick? He will rack up the hirers premiums. Then there is the long off season with all that money tied up and not earning. It just does not stack up as a 24/7 and 365 business the way car hire does.

If he can get himself up to Amsterdam he could take the ferry to Newcastle then pop into -

    http://www.2wheeltravel.co.uk/Motorcycle Hire/ukhire.htm

and hire himself a bike. Might just be Harleys from the Newcastle branch though.

Or plan B could be a train up to the Edinburgh branch and he could hire himself a B*W.......... on second thought he might be better sticking with a HD.

All bike hire in UK is extortionate. IIRC Winglad looked at hiring one for GMU last year and came to the same conclusion. Guess the insurance premium just kills it.
You ever tried to get short term bike insurance or insure a bike you don't actually own? That probably why.

just checked Cupar motorcycles for bike hire and the prices seem cheap to me..the price includes insurance
plus you get a 10% discount if you hire for 3 days:cool:
i know some folk that would be cheaper doing this than running there own bike!
eg SV 650 for £69.95 per day, plus you can get smaller bikes for less
there is a mileage charge but i reckon it's still good value

£190 for 3 days ? Doesn't sound cheap to me. Compared to car rental a total rip off. I actually found a car for £11 for 3 days, but imagine there will be a catch!

everything for bikes is more expensive than cars:eek: so you cant compare a car with a bike!!!!! they would have to pay me to drive a car for 3 days:eek:

Supply and Demand. Lots of people need to hire cars, nobody NEEDS to hire a bike.

Still no reason to totally shaft you on a rental.

As I said above, I'll bet it's insurance, not much demand and the fact they are fun! Anything that is fun, easily doubles the price!

£30 for a BJ off some hooker ??? She'd be lucky to get £6 an hour at Tesco, but make it fun and she can do £300 an hour !!!:p:laughing:

Yep seems good value to me Sam:) when i used to hire bikes in Spain for a day it probably worked out about the same price, well worth it for the enjoyment you get:cool:,he can hire my bike if he wants but it would have to be at least £500.00 a day..:p
