Thruxton Winter Blue's

i've not been on my 15 plate 900 thruxton for about 3 months, left it with 3/4 of a tank of fuel, stated it up this morning & it seemed to be running on one cylinder, it was running lumpy, after a couple of back fire's she came to life,i decided to take it out to see if it would sort itself out,it ran as if you were running out of fuel,i removed the seat to remove the fuel tank to empty it out & start off with new fresh fuel,i couldn't disconnect the wire connector or the main fuel pipe,i decided to give up on that idea & syphoned about 5 litre's out,i went to my local garage & topped it up with new fuel.i've never had this problem prior to this, gonna take it out on a good run tomorrow to see if it clears on it's own accord.is there a fuel filter on these, if so where is it situated.

 

Could have been a bit of moisture, take your plugs out and check them, make sure there’s no rodents nesting in your airbox, and maybe put some injector additive in your fuel before you take her out

 

i use super unleaded all the time.

 

Fuel goes off fairly quickly in that the most volatile fractions evaporate first leaving a less combustible mix in the tank. Fuel in the lines and injectors likewise evaporates leaving a light varnish that needs a new season cleaning out through fresh fuel and/or a proprietary cleaner.

You have almost certainly fixed the problem already but checking airboxes etc., is good sense.

I over winter my bike with a full tank of super unleaded petrol (little or no ethanol in it which absorbs water) laced with fuel stabiliser and a decent slug of Redex. Started the bike up easily a few days ago (last run in late October/early November) so I'm quite happy at this stage.

 

Bikes don't like to be ignored for long!

 

Yes I can agree on that when it comes to the battery side although I’ve two bikes in storage on super unleaded, both have existing fuel from start of storage and they’ve been stored min3yrs now and still start and run pretty much from the off. Supermarket unleaded might not be able to stand that sort of duration but I can vouch for premium fuel.

 

just a quick update,i syphoned out about 5 litre's, topped it up with fresh PREMIUM UNLEADED & it's all back to normal.running as it should.

 

i'm a little dubious about adding this to the fuel.

have you tried this in your bike,i'm a little dubious with using additive's.maybe i should ride it more often.

a pal of mine who's a mechanic has told me to try using BP ULTIMATE UNLEADED as it carry's less additives,i've also seen a product online called sea foam,maybe that's another option.

 

i put this in my 2010 Peugeot 308 diesel a couple of week's ago it had it's MOT today, its got 162,000 miles on the clocks was told the emission's were low,GREAT RESULT.
