This one always worries me. Two artics moving slowly .Do you squeeze between them ........ What do you think?
We've all done it Wayne! When I went to the Netherlands last summer I got stuck in heavy traffic in the rain on the motorway. All three lanes seemed to be full of HGV's so I had no choice really but they were mostly stationary to be fair. I decided to stop after the panniers touched on one side!
I had a close shave once when one HGV closed up the gap on me, I still don't know if it was intensional or just the driver not seeing me. But its not a nice place to be when it happens
Thinking now, I would loiter behind and between till I thought they saw me. Definitely not a nice place to be.Patience may stagger them.
As a Ex HGV driver i always take that into consideration especially for the driver in the overtaking lane as your on his blind side. Its never an easy call this one. When traveling say at around 30mph on a Duel carriage way and it seems like crawling pace even though the traffic is moving. Its so easy to chance whipping through the gap between the trailers. I have seen it done so many times when I drove trucks. You get a fright sometimes if your not paying attention. Mobile phones now being a big distraction is another worry.I see so many car and truck drivers jump on their phones as soon as they hit traffic.
In my younger days I had been known to lean a shoulder on a truck whilst going between them due to wind hitting me and causing me to go off line, heyho those were the days! Nowadays, older and wiser, we’ll i couldn’t have got any thicker, it’s either hang back or get ahead and not loiter in no mans land,
For me that's a simple choice, if they're moving show a little patience and hold back, if the traffic's stationary I'm going through. Taking chances on a bike for me is a case of risk reward, is the risk worth the reward and in the case of making a bit of ground in slow moving traffic against going under a truck it's a simple choice.
I used to drive artics, now I am in the office running 30 of these, part of my job is to debrief drivers following an accident, the amount of lane change accidents where drivers hit something 'undertaking' them is truly shocking, so I wouldn't be going down the middle unless there are stationary!
As others have said,if moving then no chance. When I was driving I had a bike come between me and another artic, the look on the other drivers face said he didn't see him either.
Me too years ago 2 up on my old Guzzi Le Mans very scary thank god I managed to balance practically at a standstill
Even in stationery traffic I'd undertake on the hard shoulder if possible, only going between the trucks as a last resort, and never if they are moving.
The answer to this is ‘It all depends.....’ Yes - when you are 20 and think you are immortal and NO! - when you are 50 and know you are not.
You can only assume they wanna die? Would like to see them try some of that stuff with Michael Dunlop!
Guy got killed in Sydney recently going between 2 moving trucks. Truck driver didn't even know he had run over him and his bike!!!
