Hi, I've recently brought my first 1050 on a 05 plate with 17k and it lived up to expectations until 2 weeks after the warranty ran out . It needs new down pipes, chain and sprocket set and rear discs! I've been told by a garage that I have to use genuine parts to repair is this the case? Can someone give me some advice?

    Thanks

    Kev

ER, no! you don't have to, but I would make sure you are getting decent replacement parts not cheap stuff, there's plenty out there, thats pretty low mileage for some of that stuff but I suppose its down to how the previous owners treated it. There'll be guys on here that will point you in the right direction. Have a look in your bike specific thread too, maybe post the question there

Welcome aboard Kev, bad luck with having stuff to fix once the warranty ran out, have a look on squaredeals.com, good prices and worth a peep, otherwise the friendly bunch on here will be along shortly to offer tips I'm sure.

even if you prefer to use genuine parts keep an eye on eBay or on here, there are decent sellers who sell used parts at reasonable prices,as for chains n sprockets wear can be minimised by scottoiler or regular cleaning n living never had to buy a chain on any bike I've used scottoiler on ever, used ones £30 upwards pay for themselves many times over.

    Welcome Kev.

As others have said there's no need to use OEM parts if the warranty has already run out. Presumably you had a dealer warranty if you bought the bike pre-owned, and if it's on an 05 plate it'd be one of the first Speed Triples.. To be fair, chains and sprockets wear out with use, and discs will need replacing if damaged due to brake pad wear.

None of the items listed old have been renewed under warranty anyway, they would be considered wear & tear items. Go for best quality you can afford, for sure does not need to be genuine Triumph parts Buy cheap, buy twice
