I had a tiger's tail fitted to me push bike all those years ago.
We had Esso, Regent and Cleveland garages just a few hundred yards from each other and all within walking distance of home.
Now I'm feeling old!!!!

Regent became Texaco. Not sure about Cleveland, although Cleveland Discol was their fuel of choice. National Benzole, to give it its full title, was made with a lot of added benzene.

Now im showing my age chaps I can remember this as a kid on the telly and had the task to fetch the stuff from the hardware shop to keep the bedrooms warm,

 

I remember that stuff when I was younger
It stunk the house out

 

Murco is another fuel station I have`nt seen for years

 

Smells are a powerful trigger for memories from years ago.
Paraffin stoves were the only source of heating for us and many, many other families in those days.
Complemented the tin bath hanging up outside in the back yard, the lino covered floors and the intricate ice patterns on the inside of your bedroom windows, those were the days!

Smells of nostalgia... A mate of mine used to race Speedway, the smell of Castrol R was still in the clothes worn days later...
as for the Trummy, well thats sat in the garage, waiting my attention, must need another polish!

 

Yep tin bath till I was about 13yrs old
Outside netty that you had break the ice before you could have a dump
Open fire so only one room got hot but all your rubbish went on it
Ice on the inside of the windows
Try telling the young uns what it was like in the good old days
