Agreed, 1yr seems pretty paltry, for what is attempted murder! Wonder what the sentence would have been if he'd attacked them with a hammer or some other heavy blunt instrument! I still cannot understand why the legal system views dishing out death and destruction from behind the wheel of a vehicle, as somehow not as serious as using a gun, or knife or any other means for that matter!
More so when it involves a biker. Seems that we are fair game in the eyes of the judiciary. No doubt he won’t even serve the full term before he is paroled

Was the judge anti biker? Seems the police kept in touch with the biker and his girl friend, shame the judge didn't take more notice of them too! The sentencing system is too chaotic in this country, judges get too much lee-way in sentencing!
Judges shouldn't give out sentences, they don't live in the real world. They are sheltered, protected and privileged. Perhaps sentences could be given out by a panel of laymen. Kind of a mini jury ?

Sorry to disagree but they have spent their working lives in courts up and down the country with the scum* and dregs of society (*scum floats to top on proceeds of crime, dregs settle to bottom - not to be confused with ‘cream’ which is rich and thick). The reality that Parliament sets the top tarriff but it gets modified in the Department of Jutice and downwards as sentencing guidelines. These are often driven by practical considerations like the prison population and available space. I suspect plenty of judges would like more prisons, better regulated to allow them to lock up more real criminals and rehabilitate life’s losers. Back to the usual suspects of taxes, politicians etc.
Sentences should not be influenced by as you put it "prison population and available space", rather sentences should be more considered. If there isn't enough space then it is incumbent upon the government to provide more space. Time and again we see public outrage at sentences handed out. The justice system is here to serve and protect the public. It is for the public to decide. I think the general consensus among the public is that sentences are far too lenient and that judges are out of touch.
Along with many before I fail to see how this is justice. There are those who have driven vans into people in the past year and I'm sure they would not have only got 12 months; there would be a public outcry? Wessa
I work everyday with the public. What needs to be addressed and what we all need to bare-in-mind is the open hostility show, when people try , politely and with every good intention to suggest a change, or alteration to our behaviour. I said to a woman, ( after swallowing hard and summoning up my courage), "Please signal the bus a little earlier". She blew up in my face, this is by no means uncommon with the public, just ask any shop assistant. This is the foundation of the aggressive seed that leads to that asshole thinking he can also do what he wants. We all (me most) seem to think we are much nicer and more precious than we are, and so, deserve to be spoken to/ treated specialy.When someone speaks to us we feel let down by them because we have not kissed had our ars3 kissed first, so they snap and we snap. and we all all know what happens next .
