Hi all.....Mad on bikes since the 70's, started out on a Lambretta Li 150, got it bored out to 175cc, got rid when it siezed and aquired a 1972 Suzuki 250 Hustler, been bit ever since.....Just joined today, hope I can contribute in some way, but have a problem at the moment with my 900. It started life as a 1996 Trophy, I bought it as a Sprint with the sprint fairing, all the wiring was concealed under the fairng, when I removed the fairing i unearthed a tangled mess of trophy wiring, so I swapped the trophy loom for a 1995 900 sprint loom (Harness), fuse box, relocated the igniter, aquired a fuel sender unit for sprint 900,wired up the temp gauge, all the electrics work fine eccept the bike will only run on the middle cylinder with two outside pots coughing and spluttering. Is there anbody out there who can help, will I need a sprint 900 Igniter, will the Trophy Igniter only work with the Trophy Harness (loom), are these igniters (ECU's) interchangeable?...Please help as the bike looks great and I want to get her back on the road.....Regards Steve Mc.

Have you got the wiring for the coils the right way round, sounds like you may have the two outside sets crossed, try swaping 1 & 3

As far as I can tell the ignitors are all the same up to 96 as are the wiring harnesses on both bikes ( same part no.s ) however the trophy harness changed some of the part numbers after vin 29156 so could be different.

Did you mark up the wiring from the original harness on removal so you could follow it on fitting the replacement harness ? did you take pictures that showed the coil wiring colours and ht layout ?

Are the wiring harness colours the same ?

My guess would be that you have either the coil wiring going to the wrong coils or the ht cables going to the wrong cylinders.

    Please tell us
    1. ) whether your VIN is before or after 29156 ( last six digits of the vin )
    2. ) whether the wiring colours are the same on both harnesses
    3. ) what the colours are on the coil wires

Thanks everyone.....Wires different to trophy in colour
Thanks for the reply Oldyam.....Vin is V043811
    Colours on Harnesses are different
colours of wires to coils, Sprint harness as follows Number 1 red , brown/yellow
    Number 2 Red, Blue/Yellow
    Number 3 Red, Green /Blue
Red to + colours to -
On the trophy the common to the coils are green which is + Voltage but they go to the - (Negative) in the Haynes book.

    Hi steve

I'm on my way out the door at the mo but will check later on the wire colours for you as my Trophy uses the same colours as the Sprint, so I should be able to tell you what colour goes where.

Unless of course someone else has an Early Trophy or trident / sprint they have the tank off for the coil wiring colours and HT lead to cylinder layout

    My Trophy/sprint is a later 900 Trophy, it's a Trophy that's been converted to a sprint.......Thanks Oldyam.....Regards Steve Mc.

Yes Steve I understand that but you fitted a loom from a sprint which is the same loom fitted to the Early trophy before 29155, also fitted to the trident.

So the wiring on my 92 trophy is as follows

No. 1 cyl = Black / green tracer
No. 2 cyl = Yellow / Blue tracer
No. 3 cyl = Yellow / Orange tracer ( could be faded red tracer hard to tell )

If this doesn't sort the issue I would suggest removing and drying out the plugs ( see if 1 & 3 are wet, 2 should be dry if its running ) and let us know what we have then

Hi Oldyam...........It's a later model Trophy, the wiring is totally different to the earlier Trophy, with a different Igniter, the trophy loom as been thrown away, it was in such a mess after the conversion to suite the sprint clocks and fairing, but at least the Igniter worked with that loom......Thanks Oldyam......regards Steve Mc.

The colour list you gave for the coils is for the original 96 trophy loom ?

Yes the list I gave you with the green common which goes to negative on Trophy coil....The other with red common is for Sprint which goes to Positive on the coil
