It must be the difference between the 19" spoked wheels and the 17" cast wheels using the same centre stand. You've immediately got 1" more on ground clearance for the cast wheel plus the weight is biased onto the front wheel giving a bit more clearance to the back wheel. My 17" cast back wheel sits ~1.5" off the floor on the OEM centre stand. It is still worth putting it on the centre stand if the bike is to be stood for a while to take the weight off the tyres.
My 2009 T100, wire wheels, has the OEM centre stand and when it's on the stand the back wheel is like yours Mick and sits at least 1.5" off the floor. I wonder if the stand on Sir Trev's is shorter than they used to be or perhaps the newer bikes are lower?
Yes, it's the OEM stand - fitted by the dealer before I picked the bike up new. Mine is the 2017 model and the sales guys showed me the lack of clearance on handover and said he'd seen it before recently and had reported it to Triumph. He said they told him it was meant to be like that... Sounds to me like they found the stand for the previous model fitted well enough and didn't bother making one to suit the current model better.
Well I have had my Bonneville SE for a month now and I am really enjoying it. I read a report before I bought it that said " it just does everything well but does not set the world on fire" and I totally agree with that. I am finding it very comfortable and easy to handle and at 74 years of age that is just what I need. I have two Hondas that do "set the world on fire" if I need that excitement so Bonnie is living up to all my expectations and I am pleased with my first Triumph in over 56 years.
Looking good! How are those panniers fitted exactly Setchy? I see there is no over the seat strap. You have a rack fitted, can you further utilise the top shocker mount for rails? I'd be interested to hear! Curly
I have the aftermarket pipes and x box on my T120 the pipes are Norman Hyde classics but I dislike them the sound sounds empty only way I can explain it. Ride Safe Joe.
