I’m surprised also, but when I filter bike for sale adverts almost all are from dealers. I think the trend nowerdays is to buy on pcp and the like. I think I’ve got a reasonable offer of 8k from the dealer but of course I’m paying list price for the new bike. I stripped off most of the accessories and will get a bit more by selling those separately.
I took a similar approach when I was looking to change my bike, started with private sale, eventually traded. The PcP market and the lack of money in peoples pockets is making selling private very difficult. Of course trading also mitigates the need for time wasters and tyre kickers, a very welcome benefit. Down side is that it can impact your ability to negotiate effectively. Wessa
Yes, very true. I did have a guy that clicked the “buy now” button but then did nothing. I also had several others who gave offers less than what the dealer would offer. So the most I was going to make was a hundred quid or so. And as you say, when it goes to a dealer as a trade in my responsibility ends there and then, and that has a value.
