I haven't had the old trophy fired up for a couple of years so at the weekend did the usual, new battery, petrol, plugs, filters, oil, fluids etc, fired up and running nice.

    All good except no clutch?

Tried running in 1st and 2nd for a few minutes still not working.

New fluid, no air, slave seems to be working ok. So with limited ability I pulled the plates apart thinking they may be stuck, not sure what I'm looking at but they seem fine and not stuck together. When I operate the lever I can see the pack compressing so I'm a bit lost.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Ted

Had a similar issue in the past when have left bikes stood for 6 months. Basically start the engine and let it get warm at tickover then hold the revs at about 6k for a few minutes. Sounds a bit radical but it will warm the oil sufficient to free the clutch. When I store bikes now I cable tie the clutch lever in to prevent this. Hope this works for you.

    Hi ted
When you removed the clutch plates did you remove all of them ?

Did you check that they were all separated ? and all the metal plates were clean both sides ?

Did you oil them all before reassembly ?

Even one pair of plates stuck together or with debris stuck to a plate may hang up also did you check the edges of the basket for marks / damage

    Hi Old Yam,

Thanks for reading my post and your reply.

Yes I pulled them all out, none were stuck and all had oil on and also did when I replaced.

No sign of any burrs or anything that would indicate a problem.

Do you happen to know what I should see when the cover is off and the lever is operated?

    Thanks

    Ted

    Hi Ted

If you look at the exploded diagram

    https://www.google.ie/maps/@54.0342...4!1si1p3nGpmrfQj-j-R3y4Jqw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

You should see cover part 11 move out away from the rest of the plates in the clutch pack as it is pushed out by the pushrod.

With the bike on the center stand and the rear wheel Off the ground

If you fasten back the lever to the grip and pop the gearbox into gear

With The Ignition key in your pocket ............... you should be able to turn the back wheel which in turn moves the gearbox and clutch but does not turn over the engine

This may feel stiff but should move

Ensure you rotate the wheel in the correct direction as if it were moving the bike forward ( rotating the engine backwards could possibly damage the cam chain tensioner )

    Hi Oldham,

The link takes me to a map??

I will try the wheel turning trick tomorrow, is this a test or possible remedy?

    Cheers

    Ted

    Test only ...........
as it should prove if the clutch is releasing, and you should be able to see the clutch cover lift freeing the plates, you should be able to feel the plates are free ( small amount of clearance ) or if theyre catching on anything in the clutch basket.
