    Hi All,
Its great to be part of this new group. I have a new 2017 Thunderbird Storm and wanted any advice or comments regarding this bike and re-mapping after fitting some short TORs. I bought these second hand and fitted them myself, easy enough job! I had arranged to take my bike for its first service at my local dealer where i bought the bike in March. I asked them if they could re-map the bike for the short TORs i had fitted and they agreed no problem. When collecting the bike they said they had a problem and the bike ECU wouldnt accept the map for the short TORs, i will say at this point that the TORs are 2 years old and Triumph part number is A9600261. The dealer couldnt understand this and contacted Triumph about this. Triumph emailed back saying the bike is a Euro 4 model and a map for the TORs is not available but it should be ok to run the bike and in time it should adjust to the TORs. Im a bit confused and wondered if anyone else had come across this issue. On all the forums everybody seems to say they have had there bike re-mapped so it runs better etc, no mention it cant be done.

Any help would be appreciated Darran.

Don't know the answer mate  but do Triumph not do short TORS for your year model Storm??
If they do then couldn't the re-map for that be installed??
Can't see how 2yr old TORS should make a difference! How would the bike know?
If Triumph says there is no map available but it's ok to run then maybe you'll just have to run with that :)
If you're happy with the sound, looks and performance as well as Triumphs email that is?
    Was warranty issues not mentioned?

I have heard what your saying before, people have been advised to run them as is and let the bike make its own adjustments over time. I cant see there being any problems, is it running ok or are you having any problems at all ?
if not just run it as Triumph advised.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I find it odd because the TORs should be no different to if i bought some new ones now. What they said seem to imply that since the Euro 4 spec came out on the bike since last year there is no map for this now. Im a bit confused, i see on the forums everyone recommending the re-map for smoother running and additional power but has anyone done this on the Euro 4 model since last year? I would have thought you could just use the old map from the previous years spec?

Hi, thanks for the reply. It does run fine but i have noticed on startup the first few minutes of tick over are all over the place with it nearly seeming to stall sometimes until warm. A bit jerkier on low revs when moving slowly also since changing to TORs.

You could try an email to Triumph yourself and ask the question again
Ask them if there is a Euro 4 spec remap in development stage.....could be?
I would ask about warranty issues as well
Keep us updated mate cos the Storm could be my next bike if I can swing it :p

The issue with the ecu remap could be the way the newer maps work and are loaded, I saw quite a bit of this in the past where you cant go backwards with an ecu reload / remap due to the way its written now compared to the older software. This would make sense with regard to Triumphs advice re running the bike and allowing it to do its own adjusting. The only other option would be to try something like tuneecu and reset the adaptations back to factory spec and let the ecu work it out from there ...... might be a quicker settling down period ??

I would have thought that the main dealer should have tried to reset the adaptions for you as they were hooked up to the bike anyway.

It might be that Triumph don't facilitate a retrograde step which might affect the EURO 4 status of the motor. I can't help wondering if there is a difference between the TORS old and current models and when they try to re-map and but the old model TORS part number in the diagnostic machine, it just says no.

Are the model numbers the same for the TORS you bought second-hand and the TORS available for your EURO4 bike ?

I think on some of the newer Tbirds they locked the ECU's

I think you may be onto something Tez217....
I was talking to a guy from triumph the other day who said that his 1200 r Thruxton was ecu locked. I think that's gonna become a common thing with new bikes. As for messing about with your own tunes & tuning software should you be able to get into the ecu, I think any running issues you have with the bike in warranty may have triumph frowning intensely should you need a repair because of your tuning attempts. Just my opinion of course

Reading some threads on another forum(www.thunderbird1600.com) about locked ECU's from 2015, trying to re-map them can cause it to lock out costing you in excess of a grand to replace, frightening to be sure, so best do your homework before even trying to plug in and mess about.

I'm glad I read this post, I have a 2017 T'Bird storm, I was going to decat it and fit some David Platt mufflers, that sounds like it is not possible if no retune is available

Check it out first is my advice Bobbyblue,
I originally put it up after reading other forums so I cant confirm its fact but you need to be sure before messing.

Tez, I e-mailed Triumph and they confirmed the ECU on Euro 4 and newer bikes can't be re flashed, to try to do it could lock the ECU, this is their reply to my mail.

    Quote:
    Thank you for your enquiry.

I can confirm that there is no tune to support the accessory silencers for Euro 4 model Thunderbirds, however the bike will adapt to them over time.

If the ECU is flashed by an outside source, it is possible that the ECU will be locked and can only be reopened by the factory.

If you decide to fit the accessory silencers, it will be fine on the standard software.

    Best regards
    Pete
    Triumph GB.

Very interesting Bobby, So fit and let the bike adapt itself, sounds the way to go mate and a lot safer and cheaper option.
Happy Days Bobby, Thanks for sharing :cool:
    PS
    Will pass on the info,

Hey Darran, I know this is a late response. But I have recently went through all of this on my storm. I purchased the cable online along with downloading a after market map that I found on Tune ECU, the map I have takes into account, aftermarket Full Exhaust, heavy breather intake, O2 sensors being capped. I just had my bike put on a dyno this week and after running it for a few hrs we realized that the map I downloaded was pretty much the best one we could come up with. We made a few minor adjustments to that one and rolled with it. If your still in need for something let me know and Id gladly walk you through it along with emailing you the map.
