Sorry to hear about all this Dave, I would seriously think about moving away from the area. Having to think about giving up biking plus having the constant threat of theft or burglary is not good.
To follow up: my KTM was found in a car parking area in the next street less than 50 metres from my home. I met the the house owner,a biker himself (Triumph speed triple) His home overlooks the parking area. He heard the noise, phoned the police who refused to come out. The 4 robbers were apparently disturbed by a dog and got away later on 2 scooters. the House owner went out later recognised the KTM as possibly mine, as he had see it about. The house owner went to the local police station to make complaint at the lack of Police action. Only after that did the police phone me to say my KTM had been located. I was able to push it back 50 metres to my home with broken steering lock but no other apparent damage. I have serious concerns that my home, in what I thought was a good area. is being targeted. With 2 thefts in 2 months my insurers are not going to be happy. My Oxford lock and alarm immobiliser proved useless. as do the Police who allow young kids to get away with all but murder.
It is hard to believe how little interest the Police are showing, particularly if you feel you are being targeted. I would contact your local M.P. and see what they have to say about the lack of Police support, ask for a reduction in council tax to remove the Police contribution portion.
Dave mate I feel for you...this absolutely makes me sick to the stomach as well as boiling my piss don't give in to the bastards...not yet mate The speed triple owner ? Sounds like a good bloke is his triumph safe? Maybe you should/could approach him with a view to sharing parking/security even if it was to cost you? I am convinced the same gang are responsible. Tues was the first time I had the bike out on my drive for any lenth of time. I was reinstalling my GPs as I had to order it for my replacement bike. I was also doing some routine maintainance before my trip to the Horizons Unlimited event where I was doing a couple of shows. The bike is unusable now as the steering lock damaged and.
Really feel for you there, it's my biggest concern to do with bikes is theft. We've been warned in our area scrotes are going round doing drive bys spotting bikes coming home etc then later spraying a white line on the road outside the house like council workers marking potholes , that would make me suspicious right away! , then a couple of days later they'd come round with a van , break what security you have and bundle your bike in the back.
I feel your pain and despise plod for being so f*cking useless! I know Southampton sadly is second only to London for the number of bike thefts but these gangs do travel around and target specific areas. I have also heard reports of bikers being hi-jacked whilst waiting at the lights by thieves (2 on a ped and the other on a quicker bike). They may threaten you or even grab your keys if they can. I have Bennetts insurance and the bikes are garaged but the policy states that if a bike is stolen off the drive or within 500 metres of the house then they won't pay up!
So Im off to Knockhill for Brittish Superbikes I want to leave the bike in the carpark so I can come and go. Any advice or instructions? I feel for you Dave your bike was same model as mine your post about the theft shoock me, good luck mate.
Dave, sad news mate. It might be linked to the garage,. Wouldn't be the first time a dodgy garage has done similar. But you can't go accusing without proof. Just as likely is you've been unlucky and the bike was spotted somehow from the road or when you rode it home. Gangs of thieves work in teams of three or four from vans. Between them it takes only minutes to manhandle into a van or low loader a locked bike that isn't anchored. They then can work on the locks and chains with an angle grinder at their leisure. Four or five bikes a night is easy untaxed earnings. Many popular bikes get dismantled for sale as parts, especially the fairings and plastics that command a good price on Ebay. Are there any parts on the bike you can positively identify as yours? If so keep checking Ebay and then alert the police if you see any. They will be more than happy to follow up a positive ID. Remember many cops ride bikes too and hate the scum as much as the rest of us do.
Bastards!!! It appears if they want it they will take it no matter what you have on it security wise, there has been a spate of bikes stolen from Chelmsford town centre in full view of everyone literally dragged into vans!!!
Trouble is now days nobody wants to get involved, which gives the thiefing b@#tards a free hand. Not sure there is an answer, other than there for the grace of .......... I've still got my bike. Wessa
My dad - in about 1983 - was subject to a moped type raid in Benidorm. The one thing they didn't reckon on was a Staffordshire man who took no fools likely. He pulled the idiot off the bike - the purp made a hasty get away - on foot.
