Can anyone recommend a good touring screen to fit to my 800xc. I am 6'1" and would like to take my bike touring, just think the standard screen needs to be changed to help with the buffering. All help gratefully received.
Hi Spug, unfortunately with all these adventure style bikes (Triumph/BMW/Ducati they're all the same), the original screen gives varying levels of buffeting, which can be disagreeable especially if like me you wear an open face helmet. The first and free-to-try option is running with the OE screen taken off the bike. You will get a small increase in wind pressure on your chest, but it will remove 90% of the buffeting because you'll be running through clean air. I've tried a Givi touring screen - crap!; an MRA Touring screen (currently fitted) and that was an improvement but there is a whole range of stuff available. My advice? Try riding your bike with any screen and see how you get on, before spending wads of cash on stuff that you can't guarantee will work.
One word answer to your question Spug 'Madstad' I'm 6' and had the same problem with the Triumph adjustable screen, I think they call it the touring screen Fitted a Madstad which I purchased off a Tiger 800 forum member, brilliant but pig ugly. So long as it keeps my dry and wind less who cares.
20'' if my memory serves me correctly. If your not in a rush to buy one then keep your eye on the for sale section of the Tiger 800 forum you sometimes get them for sale.
I have had the standard screen on an 800 XRT and taller adventure screen on an 800. Changed both for Palmer Products standard adjustable screen and improvement was immense. I'm 5' 10" and got their standard screen, but for taller peeps (6' 00" plus) they do a taller screen. Sadly, with screens, it's difficult to try them out before you buy and everybody's different. I liked theirs so much, I even fitted one to a Tiger 1050 and improved it no end!!
