Anyway I was the smartarse, when posted to a new unit, found my wife's cousin (a REME VM Sgt) underneath a truck putting his clipboard away after a PRE pass. I then showed him the CV joint on the propshaft he'd missed. I like dirt.
yup, I left the Airforce after 13 years in 1989. It was a great time. I do not miss my time in the mob nor do I regret it. In fact I shudder to think how life would have been if I had not got on that train in 1976. I joined the legion riders and I dip in and out. It might just be me but some members seem over the top a bit. Still,each to their own !
Hi from WA , I'm Ex Australian army. did 20 years and 4 months.Joined in Mar 79, went into RAEME as VM. did 9yrs, then transferred to RACT (royal aust. cars and trucks .... Transport lol ) got out in Jul 99. Like you we have an ex-service riders club called the "Patriots", they are a bit over the top tooo... most club positions have "Rank". I got out to get away from that .....! Cheers capt.
I did 'over 30 years' and was happy to leave as I no longer supported our general direction of travel and the way we were used and abused in all three Services (and the Booties). Still, the inter Service mix reminds me of the time honoured joke about 'estate' - what an Army officer owns (I wish!), a Naval officer drives......and what an RAF officer gets into......
Was RAF Radar Tech for 25 years. Left 12 years ago as a Sgt. I do still miss the life ( especially the fact that I'll sadly never be able to do a Cyprus tour again.)

I was out with a group of Legion riders on Sunday. They are from Cambs. and are on a seven year mission to visit the 876 graves of the members of Cambridgeshire Regiment who gave their lives in WW1. Their aim is to visit each grave on or as near to the 100th anniversary of their deaths and lay a poppy. On Sunday they were honouring Cpl Madsing who is buried in Pearlthorpe village church. They perform a short service at the graveside. Sometimes they are only a few riders but on Sunday as well as the six Legion riders there were 30+ riders from the local area, many of them from the Sherwood Chapter of the Harley Owners Group. About half of the bikes parked outside the church on the Thoresby estate, there are as many again behind me. Mine is the green and white Bonnie.
You know the breeks Sharpe wears? They are overalls. The same is/was true of cavalry wear albeit in mess dress they got tailored down to a skin tight fit. I fully accept the common name is 'trousers' - not pants - but the correct term is 'overall'. I wore them too and I thought it was daft when it was explained to me. Never ever once in my Military career did i hear anyone call trousers of any sort, be it (when i served) lightweights, combat(DPM) Dress or those horrible Barrack Dress, Overalls.But then what do i know.
