    Hi all,

Was enjoying a ride out tother day up to Kirkby Lonsdale, then on to hawes in the dales, on the way (and also on the way back, but on the other side) the police "safety" vehicle was out with the camera poking out. Obviously it is the moral duty of EVERY biker to inform other road users of their presence, and I was wondering how you all go about doing that, as I did get a warning a couple of times and both riders used a different method to each other AND to me.

Incidentally, I use an outstretched "thumbs down" then yank my thumb backwards to indicate further back down the road.

Don't suppose it matters really as long as we actually do try to inform others, but you'd think in this game there would be a universally accepted signal?

How do you lot go about it?

If the police are a few miles up the road ii usually flash the lights once then 3 or 4 flashes after that, or if they are not far away i will flash the lights then the move my hand up and down to indicate slow down quickly

I take my left hand off the grip and motion up/down with palm facing down, after the obligatory headlights flashed :sun: If there's time i'll indicate to which side of the road the "device" is located.

I'm the same as capt. palm down hand I front of chest and move it up and down. Don't forget though it is an offence to warn other vehicle users of a safety camera. Now there's irony, obviously an unsafe bit of road coming up but you can't let anyone know!!

I take my right hand off the grip and motion up and down with palm facing down (arm half extended).

As Crispey says, it's an offence to warn other road users of an imminent speed trap........sorry, 'safety' camera!!

I'm the same as a few others wave my right arm up and down and flash lights, to some people thumb down may look derogatory, ade

I tap my helmet if a copper/speed camera is down the road and I see another biker heading towards them, plus a flash or two of the main beam
If a biker is behind me and there is some roadkill/cardboard/bloody big hole in the road I stick my foot out on the side the thingy is and wiggle my foot., Usually give the biker behind an idea something ain't right.

Exactly. 22 years served so maybe that's why I chose to do that signal. Not that I view EVERY copper as the enemy. Representative of life I think, some are dicks, some aren't. ;):)

What's important tho is that we DO it, not how we do it I suppose.

Mad isn't it that they insist on calling it a safety camera but it's against the law to warn people of it. Surely if it was all about safety, anything that gets people to slow down is a good thing right? Unless of course it means they lose money in the form of fines.

That's OK. if the other person is military / ex mil. Lots of people probably wouldn't recognise the gesture .... I think everyone will understand the palm down .

I'd probably think you had a bit of cramp if I saw you wiggling your foot.
It would slow me down and make me keep my distance though in case you fell off.
