Hi, I have recently converted my 2002 Speed Triple 955i rear end. Upgrades include 2005 rear subframe side panels, seat and tank. In the tank I have fitted a new fuel pump. Before changing the parts the bike worked perfectly, now it will not start I think the problem is fuel but cant work out why. I have Tune ecu diagnostics which is detecting no faults. If anyone has any ideas i'd love some help and advice. Cheers all Baz.
Hey Baz, have you tried to connect power to the pump with the tank off to see if it does indeed pump ? Just be careful when doing so for sparks and setting something alight. New parts can sometimes be defective.
I haven't with the new pump, I had the same problem before I replaced it though. If i put fuel down the inlets it fires up. I'm wondering if the ecu has got a fault. Tune ecu shows no fault though. Everything is from a 955i apart from tank and pump, from other people im told it should all work. Totally stumped. Cheers for ideas.
??? You said in your first post that before changing things that the bike ran perfectly? In your reply to Angus you said that you had the same problem before replacing the pump Does the bike fire up then cut out after putting fuel down the inlets?
Hi, just to clarify when the bike was standard 955 it ran perfectly, I have fitted 1050 rear sub frame etc and tank and pump. since fitting the 1050 parts it no longer runs, I've blanked return end of fuel rail and fitted a new pump to the 1050 tank as i thought the first might be faulty. When i put fuel down the inlets it does fire up but only for as long as that fuel lasts. Cheers.
Ok mate not being familiar with this bike but why block fuel rail return end? Could this not over pressurise the fuelling system causing the pump to stop by hydraulically locking up the system including injectors?
On the 955 there is a supply and return fuel line, on the later models one single fuel line in, My understanding from other forums is blanking it, is the way to do it. I'm beginning to wonder.
Could you unblank it? Bit of pipe into fuel can to catch the return fuel? Might work....dunno? Goes without saying be careful though!!!
I agree with Dilligaf, unblock the return, put it in a bottle to catch the fuel and try it, you will quickly see if it keeps running or still has the same problem.
Opened up the pipe, when the ignition is turned on and the pump whirs, no fuel is coming out of the open end. I'm guessing this is not priming correctly but not sure anymore.
At least now you know it's not pumping Bit of a faf on but you could try the other tank/pump Whirring doesn't mean pumping Fingers crossed for you mate
I think ecu to pump problem, 955 pump run off the ecu 1050 pump has a relay too I've learned. Gents cheers for all your input really appreciate it.
If fuel is not coming out of the pump but it sounds as it is working try priming the pump by sucking the fuel through to fill the pump body
Good news, The bike is now running, pump electrical connector wired with wrong polarity, different colours on newer pump. The pump was running but in wrong direction. Thanks to everyone for your input, much appreciated. Baz.
