Be interested to get a test ride on one of these; if like me and you ride a Speed Triple you are going to wonder how they compare. More power at 180BHP More Torque Power modes Traction control (Handy in the wet with 180 BHP) In my opinion its ugly compared to the Triumph, but if everything else is better, could you be tempted?
I swapped my superduke for my Speed... I loved my duke.. I could be very tempted..... But am still waiting to see what BM will bring out... Can't beleive they got 180 BHP out of it... Mine had 130ish same as speed(135). And that was mental... Not flat out just grunt low down and acceleration..
Watch this space - I'm absolutely convinced that with the advent of the 1,200cc motor for the Explorer etc., it won't bee too long before we see the 1,200 Speed Triple in the frey...
Not entirely sure why I spelled 'be' with two Es but Mr. Jack may have had something to do with it!
The explorer engine is too lazy.. We want a screaming nutter bastard love child of a RSV V4 Tuono & new 1290 Superduke... Sod the niceties... Give us mean......
Can not see Triumph getting anywhere close to 180 BHP with any of their current engines but hope they give it a go.
If Triumph can get over 100 BHP out of the 675 lump, then surely a scaled up 12 or 1300 cc engine with a 14000 rpm red line would do the trick??
Outright horsepower isn't everything, remember test riding an early 1400 Kawasaki Grand Tourer and came away disappointed; opened the throttle at low engine revs and not a lot happened and the power only came roaring in high up the revs not great for normal road use. If KTM have retained the unique V twin low down and mid range stomp and still achieved such high output then it will be some machine to ride. I had a 1198 Multistrada before the Speed Triple and I do miss 150 BHP and absolute bonkers acceleration; pity bits dropped off, brakes failed, electrics failed and it turned out to be such a reliability nightmare. Lesson learnt, even if the KTM is great I am not going to be an early adopter and let someone else have the new bike teething troubles.
mmm... it would be like stripping the fairings off the Blade and putting some high bars on it - yes I have given it some thought! :upyeah:
Just checked the local KTM dealer website as I have been 'interested' in the 'Beast'...£13995 but price to be confirmed!?! WTF? Mind you in the right boots (white ) and the right mood it could be a replacement for the Blade?
