That sounds good! I don't think we'll be coming past on a Tuesday but I may pop down over the summer anyway it's not too far from me!
Thanks Sean! My bike has been booked in to the garage to get her road worthy again after the lay off so fingers crossed it's all coming together!
Me!!! I had to surrender my license for a year as I'm epileptic but from 14th May I'm back!!!! The bikes going in for a full service and MOT on Friday so should be back middle of next week ready for the weekend!
Ah I see, will be great to get back on the bike then! H ow does that work surrendering your license then? Did you have a seizure whilst riding and the authorities were informed something like that? My brother has epilepsy but doesn't yet drive or ride. Tell me to mind my own business if it's too personal I'm just interested that's all, I've always wondered what the deal is with epilepsy and driving/riding. I know there are certain jobs he can't do because of it.
No you're fine I don't mind! I had a few absence seizures at the beginning of last year so went to see the dr. I got referred to a consultant and the first thing he said was I shouldn't be driving. It's all down what the consultant says, they now have to power to stop you driving/riding. So you then can either surrender it or the DVLA take it off you. It you do it voluntarily you can then apply for it back after 10months but if they take it you have to wait a year. You have to be seizure free for a year with my kind of epilepsy before you're allowed to drive or ride. I've missed riding aload but it's also just the hassle of not being able to get around! I'm self employed so it has been a right bugger for me but especially the wife who has also been a part time taxi driver for me!
Well I'm glad to hear you're getting the license back then buddy. It'll be great jumping back on the bike that's for sure! And the wife will be please too! But you're right, it's the freedom riding offers, not having to rely on anyone else that's part of what makes it great. I never feel right when my bikes in the mechanics or out of action for a bit. It feels like a bit of me is missing! I would say take it easy on the bike and ease yourself back in, but after looking at your're route jumping in at the deep end it is
Thanks mate! I'm going to take it easy for a couple months building up to the trip so hopefully everything will be fine! Will have to meet for a ride sometime!
So I have finally received my driving license back now so between that and the missus passing it has been a very good weekend! The bike is in the garage having the necessary done to make it ridable again but should be back by the end of this week so keep your eyes peeled for a grinning idiot on a Scrambler! Plans are coming along nicely for the trip and have even managed to find some more friends around the country to put us up so should only be two nights accommodation we need!
I can recommend Staithes 10 miles north of Whitby and handy for North Yorks Moors railway etc. Staithes is a lovely old fishing village with a good pub (Cod and Lobster) right on the harbour and I can recommend Dotties vintage tea room and B and B. My daughter owns it tell her that dad recommended it and she will give you a good deal. The breakfast is amazing and there is a guest lounge so you don't have to be restricted to your room.
