http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1978-FORD...0-MILES-LOW-OWNERS-/332199692404?roken=cUgayN Just look at what an old Escort is going for !!!! Are there really people out there who are willing to part with over £17k for an Escort ??? I remember running around in my mates MKII Escort, it was pretty crap. This nostalgia for old Ford's is seriously silly now. I can understand paying maybe 1/2 that for a really nice concourse RS2000 with four spokes & Recaro fishnets in black, but a pretty plain mexico ! Not even what I would call mint. There must be a lot of fools out there, cos they are soon getting parted with a serious amount of dosh for a 70's Ford. And this is not alone, Fleabay is full of old crappy 70/80's Fords going for silly money. Only decent one's for proper money is a nice Mk4/5 Cortina or a big MkI or MkII Granada.
It's any thing with a motor 2 or 3 or 4 wheels And yes they can be crap as they were when first made it doesn't seem to matter. People with no idea looking to invest I guess
I'll go for a ride once or twice a year and go to a classic meet to see classic cars and bikes Can't believe how many times I say. Had one of those!
Yep gets really scary when you see so many motorised things that you had along the years. I have to say that I've never wanted to revist owning them as most of them were not up to today's build and safety standards, so in my view why would I. Wessa
That's completely barmy !!! I wouldn't give a grand for it, never mind twenty grand. I'm pretty sure those seats aren't original either. Just crazy!! Imagine buying it and two years down the line when the stock markets start to take off again and the bottom drops out of pseudo classic cars, and it's now worth a grand
Believe it or not but these little escorts are highly sought after even here in SA and I frequently come across a wanted ad on Gumtree or similar platforms. People pay top dollar for them, most gets serious mods soon after ownership.
Not really any worse than knackered Yamaha 125 and 175 trial bikes being imported from the States and going for nearly £2k and then requiring a full restore, or FS1E's or any other bikes from the 70's and 80's
My pal had an RS2000. He was being harassed to sell it and finally snapped sayin "£25k and not a penny less!" thinking the canvasser would be put off. He turned up the next day with the cash. Sold it there and then. They pay fucking mental money for them. In saying that you can buy new shells now which `might` affect the originals in terms of price.
This is just madness - my mate had the RS2000 (one on ebay for £18,000!). Basically an Escort with the 2.0 litre Pinto engine in it and a stupid front grill!
My escort was pretty much the same. It was a 1.3L with a tin of pinto beans and a bbq grill in the boot.
