That's a bummer, I would love to own a Thruxton but Crispey you are putting me off them wish you luck on your insurance hunt Crispey hope you find a biker friendly one, have you tried Bennetts Saga ?
crispy, Your in the HTOC. They were doing 25% off insurance for all members but i can't remember who with.
I had my renewal from Bennetts for my Tiger 800 .pay it and thought that was that ,WRONG just received a letter saying they want £55 more because they found out that someone reversed into my car back in 2016 .When I rang Bennetts to say that the claim was settled privately and no insurance company was involved they still wanted the £55 or they would cancel the insurance to which I replied how can you justify charging an extra £55 for a claim that we sorted out privately and did not involve any Insurance company ,he 's reply was we can do what we like Told Bennetts to stick the policy where the sun does not shine to which he replied that would cost £30 cancellation fee .I told him fine I do not deal with a company that rip their customers off .Went to Carole Nash who could not believe what Bennetts had done.So I am now with Carole Nash Icing on the cake is Carole Nash where cheaper and more customer friendly. I think I spoke to Robin Bastards at Bennetts ,stay well clear of Bennetts!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bizarre! After being on the phone for 50 min to Carole Nash, being asked if I would be towing a caravan amongst other non Bike related things, (sorry capt. but that sort of thing doesn't really happen over here, they informed me I couldn't get insurance on the tiger as it was kept on the drive, one of the first questions, whereas Hastings who said they couldn't re-insure my thruxton and would charge £300 more than last year for the tiger as it was kept on the driveway, have sent my policy renewal through for this year with exactly the same conditions as last year for £50 less! I can't figure this lot out!!
Just as a matter of interest Chris, how much would the cancellation fee have been if you hadn't told him to 'stick it' ? lol
oh! And another thing, I told them I had an immobiliser on the tiger and they were going to put the premium UP by £20!! I told them they were having a laugh which she kind of agreed to so discounted my policy by £40. I have the feeling that these people interpret info in their own way so if you get a quote you don't like phone again and hope you get someone else!!
Hi Crispey, We don't have your problems with bike insurers, as there are only two worth using, if you have a good or half decent claims record you might get a decent price ! Otherwise you are screwed !!! There are minor players who might give you a price you'd like but come claims time they might be a WEE bit hard to find ! One insurer two years ago quoted me $1200 for a 6yr old America I'd owned from new ! No accident claims in over ten yrs Car or Bike!!! They are Thieves ! Cheers capt
Sorry to here all you guys are having all these problems I have found with both of my bikes no problems at all like this I tell them everything about alteration and incidents they quote a price that is honoured and is on par with other quotes, I use Bennetts found they are excellent and as long as they give me this service I will continue to use them.
Hi Peter, Do you mind letting us know what you pay ? I returned to biking after a 30 years absence but have always had a car with no claims or convictions for many years. 1st year started with Bennetts, Zero no claims, fully comp = £178. Fair enough! Came up for renewal £550ish, challenged it came back at £700ish, no claims, no convictions, no change of circumstance or address, just bloody ridiculous! Phoned them, e-mailed them, all a waste of time! Obviously didn't want my business so I gladly took it to Asda. I am glad you are currently okay with Bennetts but be prepared for stupidity at some stage with them.
Hi MickEng I do not want to disclose exactly what I pay and I do use search engines each year to compare pricing, Bennetts found to be best for my chosen machines of use a 2006 600 speed four with 1 year NCD and a 2000 BMW R850R with 0 NCD although I have been riding machines for 30+ years I had a gap and lost my entitlement to NCD insured for social and domestic use not on a multi bike insurance I am retired living on the Essex coast line each bike insured under £90.00 full comp(free coffees at MCN show) with no extra add ons bikes to be kept under 4000 miles locked in garage at my home address, I am a member of the Rospa riders, I find it best to contact the insurance company before payment to discuss any alterations your bike has hope this helps.
Just returned to biking; went through the compare websites and paid Bennetts £275 tpft! That was the cheapest I could get.
That's not too bad, just make sure you're not on auto renewal or you might get s nasty surprise in a years time.
