We are currently living through the most turbulent of political times.
If it is something every now and again that a Triumph owner wants to read or participate in then surely it must be a benefit.
For anyone who doesn't want to get involved its an easy decision not to go on the politics thread.

Sorry mickeng That's a politics thread not a politics forum, this is not directed at you but generally, surely if you want to talk politics go to a politics forum? This ain't that it's a bike and banter forum, I come here to get away from all the cr *p that goes on, gets too serious there's no point in it.

I totally agree with you Crispey and I would probably never go on the political thread myself, but there may be genuine petrolhead Triumph owners who do like discussing politics amongst a host of other topics.
Should it be denied ? The poll result will give us the answer.

I agree with if you don't want to talk politics then don't go into that thread.
Then again I would hate to lose a well thought of member due to that as well.
I like talking politics as it's good to challenge your own views and possibly some one else's.
At the end of the day I voted to delete it as it is a bike forum.

I don't do politics, and use my broken head to decide what I read. Initially I was 100% for getting rid of ANY politics. However Mr O that's a very well worded poll question. Congratulations.
I would suggest if it's divisive or offensive, ANY thread should go, unity is all important, but now the poser, if it stayed then there would be a place for friends to exchange views, and considerate free speech maintained.
I decided therefore to vote for leave the thread on, specifically so any thread deemed political could be put/moved there, rather than cause upset seeping into bike stuff. Live and let live guys and gals, but please do vote. Mr O is doing a very good job, and needs to know the overall view not the minority. The minority view should always be heard, but not acted upon. Could somebody help me down off this box into a darkened room..

The politics thread was created for people to air their political views. But, it was also created so that other people not interested in hearing political views, could avoid politics. Simple.
To abandon the political thread now would lead to the proliferation of political statements throughout the forum. We are all mature enough and sensible enough to stick to the rules I think.

I'm a MAG member, and MAG has to fight for biker's rights at the political level, locally and nationally. Internationally as well with FEMA.
The lesson is you ignore politics at your peril.

As an aside, I really miss the "Political Planet" forum in the US RAT site. It got really stroppy at times, but was a good place to learn the thought processes of people who you would absolutely disagree with.

I enjoy it as I learn about what you all are facing from your politicians. Lord knows here in the states we are in the midst of a 4 year piss taking. Misery loves company, eh up?

As an aside, on the FAL Files (gun forum) we have a subforum called "dumping brass", Glocktalk has the "furball corner" and my point is - these are user group forums, like ours, where people get to discuss politics and rant a bit. No harm, no foul....it is just the Internet.

I get through life by not taking things too seriously.
Not a lot I can do to change politics and similar shite but I can have a big influence on the happiness of my children and grandchildren and that's what ultimately counts to me.

Political thread is a useful facility for anyone to vent their spleen, so to speak:mad:, and having done so return to the rest of the forum both refreshed and calm:).

Think of it this way ... in Pontefract (West Yorkshire) on a Friday and/or Saturday night, the good folk therein would go for a 'shandy' or 20, get drunk, enter into heated discussions, proceed to knock seven bells out of each other:eek:, before returning to the bar in good time for 'last orders' and a final drink together before happily going on their merry way with a promise to do it all over again the following week:D. The cuts, bruises and broken limbs would be more or less healed by then! 'Twas ever thus and indeed may still be that way - not been back for a while on a Fri/Sat night.

The system worked well - but it was a mining community back then and now the pits have all gone they may have taken the 'entertainment' with them:(.

But I hope you can see how a similar system here could work - what happens in the 'political thread' stays in the 'political thread' (with apologies to Las Vegas!).

I was with Jez about not commenting our vote but after some thinking (and you all know how hard this is for me) I feel like sharing my thoughts with you:
Take this thread, for example: http://www.thetriumphforum.co.uk/threads/gods-own-county-country-the-truth.9073/
Am I the only one who gets the notion, it might be slightly political? And so, what???
If admin moved all the political, controversial, non PC stuff to the thread in question, they would be doing overtime.
    And the other threads?
Go like: 'Nice countryside.' 'Yes.' 'Maybe.' 'It's o.k.'
'Hi, I am Sofia. I am gay.' 'Hi.' 'Why?' 'Please post it in the political thread.' 'It's o.k.'
'My bike leaks.' 'Try a wrench.' 'Sorry' 'I am also sorry' 'It's o.k.'

That's why I do not need a political thread but people with good humor who know when they step over a certain line...

The best about this forum is the fact that all the topics go t..s up after about an average of ten posts.
Most of them go political in some way (if you count in minorities and all the non PC stuff...)
So we start a topic and end it in the politcal thread?

    Just thinking...
    ;)

As DD says, it stays. Please keep all unpleasantness in the confines of the space provided - the politics thread.

Have closed this thread, please place all comments in politics thread where I will treat them with all respect they deserve and as such, probably ignore them;):D
