Regarding the 12000 miler yes I guess it can be done on age as well, I was thinking more about shims being checked which I would think is a mileage thing. They only get done if need doing. Find out what mileage the 12000 was done at and if shims were checked. If they were the measurements should be on the service sheet. I'm sure if this is wrong someone will point it out.
Edit* there's no reason why the shims can't be checked on a short service anyway

It looks really smart and I agree about who you're buying off...it makes a massive difference the way they come across!

    GOOD LUCK!

Since I am not much of a mechanic, I always judge more by the seller and how he/she 'comes over'.
For me buying something from private is more psychological than technical.

So your story sounds pretty good... Better a red bike from a good man than a black one from a twat ;)

You know what it didn't actually look that bad when it was in front of me.

I'd still remove it though ...

Seller has sent me the full service history - it's next service would be due November 2018, unless the bike does 26k miles before that date which is unlikely.

The last service was performed at the end of November 2016 and all I can see that's been flagged up is the rear brake pads are close to min level - he has spare pads to give me and the headrace bearings were tightened which they recommend replacing in the future? Is this costly?

There's no sign of the shims having been checked on the service sheet but he says he's going to get in touch with the garage to see if they have any record of it.

Thabks both. That IS a nice bonneville. And thanks for the heads up cripsey about the green thruccy.

I'm going to try and tie up this red thruccy I think. The way it's happened just 'feels' right y'know.

    Sean.

Parked next to a red one at my local dealers on Tuesday - red does look good.

I would think so - this must be an older carb model though judging by the idiot lights and analogue mileometer

probably 2007 as efi came in 2008 and the higher bars as they realised us older folk were a potential market and our backs couldn't cope with the clip ons. Nice though. Was the engine black?

FYI The Brooklands Green one has 3000 on the clock, 3 yrs old, just had its first MOT and is being sold as the guy has too many bikes, shame! circa £5500. I think hes gone from 7 down to 3. Just in case!!
